Looking for a new job can be exciting, especially when you get the call that the company is interested and wants to interview you! But interviewing can feel like a daunting task for some and downright scary for others. Preparing for the job interview can help to quell your nerves and boost your confidence so you can get the job!
The following are 10 tiny tips that can empower you to have your best job interview yet!
Interview the Company:
Just as the company interviews you, you also need to interview the company to determine if it is the right fit for you as well.
Research the Company:
Find out all you can about the company before the interview. Not only does this reveal a lot about the company’s reputation, but it also is impressive to the interviewers that you took the time to learn about the company upfront.
Dress for Success:
First impressions are powerful. Dress appropriately for the job you want to land. Put on your best “dress for success” outfit or purchase clothing, if needed.
Prepare Your List of Questions:
Prepare a list of questions to which you want to obtain answers during the interview. As they are answered, write down the responses.
Prepare Answers to Common Questions:
There are a number of common interview questions. Why should we hire you? What do you know about us? Why did you leave your last position? Google a list of commonly asked interview questions and get familiar with them.
Send a Thank You Note:
Be certain to send this immediately after the interview on the same day. Make sure it is written and send either via snail mail or email to the person who interviewed you. Get the interviewer’s contact information before you leave the interview.
Arrive 10-15 minutes early. This allows time for you to arrive at the office, check in, and observe the environment of the company before the interview starts.
Honestly answer all of the questions that you are asked. Answer what the interviewer asks no more and no less. Lies only come back to hurt you and can cause you to lose the position.
Ask the Next Steps:
Find out what happens next in the hiring process so that you know what to expect.
Confidence is a key component of a successful interview. People who appear confident are more likely to get chosen for a position than those who do not.
Use these tips before your next job interview. Go get your dream job and live your best life!
