Create balance in 2017 with 5 feng shui inspired solutions for the New Year with today’s featured Blog of the Day by Sherry Burton Ways.
The New Year is upon us if you have not figured that out already. You are in the midst of creating a new life for yourself as well as new goals. One thing to remember is that your living environment should reflect these goals and reinforce them. Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese art of placement is a great tool to set the intention for your space, keep it organized and full of great energy throughout the new year.
Feng Shui—which translates literally to “wind” and “water”—is about balancing the energy, or chi, of a living space and its inhabitants to increase well-being in all aspects such as health, prosperity, relationships, career success, etc. The goal of Feng Shui is to create constant, mutual interaction between your personal energy and your environment. Each constantly affects and shapes the other.
There are two dimensions of Feng Shui: the visible and the invisible. The visible refers to everything you can see and touch (walls, doors, furniture, etc.). The invisible refers to the life force energy (chi) and the influences of energies that previously occupied your space or land. In Feng Shui, everything involves an intention and an action. Action is the physical side of the process. When working with Feng Shui, an action is the tangible (visible) activity of, say, moving the bed to another location or painting a room a different color.
The end of the year is symbolic of new beginnings and fresh resolutions. Preparing your home for the New Year is akin to creating space in your life and home for new opportunities and leaving behind anything that you do not want to take forward with you. It is a great idea to make your home feel warm and welcoming during this time of year. The New Year celebrations are all about cheer, laughter, and most importantly being close to the people you love in a warm and nurturing environment.
Per Feng Shui principles, elements such as colors, sounds, and symbols —along with how you arrange furniture and other items—are instrumental in creating a pleasing indoor environment. When you inhabit a living space that has healthy chi or good energy, your own life force is enhanced and preserved.
Here’s how to use Feng Shui inspired solutions to create your home into a healthier, calm-inducing place for the New Year:
Think about what your H.O.M.E. means to you and begin a strategy to create it.
Here is a practical method to break down the powerful word of HOME:
- What do you want your home to say about your goals for good health this year? Write it down.
- What ways can you better organized in your home in 2017? Write it down.
- What lasting memories do you want to create in your home this year? Write it down.
- What are some aesthetic changes you would like to make in your interior? Write it down.
De-clutter your space
Clutter is a primary obstacle to positive chi. Whether it’s an ever-mounting pile of mail or a shelf full of disorganized, dust-caked CDs, clutter constantly reminds you that you’ve left something—or several things—unfinished. The result? For many, anxiety and restlessness. Remove any items you no longer use and don’t let your kids drop their backpacks in the doorway.
Fix What is Broken
If you have broken windows, pipes, vases, anything, chi circulates and then sits there. Repair any damaged items in your space. Broken items in your space have same negative effect as clutter because it does nothing to uplift the space or its occupants—it’s negative Feng Shui.
To achieve balance within a room, incorporate each of the five Chinese elements: earth, fire, metal, water, and wood. These can be represented through textures, shapes, and colors. For instance, to personify water without literally bringing it in, incorporate dark, shiny, reflective surfaces and fabrics with wave-like patterns.
List all the things you would like for your interior to say, do and feel for you and your family.
Then start setting about and implementing it. one week at a time. Start to think about the colors and furnishings in your home. Is it time to repaint and bring in a different wall color? Does your favorite chair need reupholstering? What about finally getting those beautiful window treatments you always wanted? NOW is the time to begin anew- a clean slate.
In the coming year, you want to create a supportive interior environment that fully supports your personal and professional goals. Therefore, it is best to create a home environment that fully supports the way you want to be, and the way you want to live in the world. So, as you prepare mentally and spiritually for this exciting shift in the universe, your home or office interior must be in alignment for the abundance prepared for you.
As you prepare for 2017, this is your time to think about making a shift your mindset about your interior. To prepare, we will need more spiritual and Feng Shui inspired energetic tools. Listen to your intuition and be in touch with your spiritual self. It is about moving to action instead of waiting for permission to move forward.
