The solar plexus chakra has been called many names:
- Power Chakra
- Navel Chakra
Generally, people call it by the name solar plexus or Manipura. Manipura in Sanskrit can be loosely translated as:
- Lustrous Gem Or Jewel
- Place of Gems
- Dwelling Place of The Jewel
- City of Jewels
- Shining Like a Pearl
Traditionally, this chakra was seen as a minor chakra, but in our modern times according to the New Age Movement, it is considered a major chakra.
The solar plexus chakra can be found in your body, directly below the sternum, over the stomach. Manipura is considered to be the last of the lower three physical chakras. This is a chakra that is masculine in nature and carries yang energy. This is where you find your strength, your inner warrior. It is ignited by the element of fire, the energy from the Sun and is considered to be seen as a yellow chakra. The solar plexus first becomes involved in a person’s life when they are between the ages of 14 to 21 years old.
Manipura governs the flow of energy in your body. It is the centre gathering point of all the lines of subtle energy (nadis). These nadis are the so-called meridians or channels with which prana (universal life force) runs through our body, controlling all our functions.
This is the chakra of empowerment, the centre of a person’s identity. It governs all of the aspects of one’s personality and the ego. This is where you find your personal power, self-worth, self-confidence, self-esteem and find your strength to make your own decisions. The solar plexus is the regulator of your inner knowing, allowing you to follow your gut instincts. The ability to speak your truth, find beauty and seek freedom dwell in this area.
This is one area of the body that is really affected by stress. If your Solar Plexus is blocked or depleted, you may find that you lack energy. Lack of flow into the Manipura can be manifested as depression, being fearful, anxiety, insecure, or being more introverted. Physically a blocked solar plexus can be seen as having issues with the stomach, digestion, or even back problems.
If you are too energized in the solar plexus you will be seen as overpowering, bossy, angry, not being able to compromise, too competitive, arrogant, narcissistic, and to lack sensitivity. The physical manifestation of an over energized Manipura can show up as insomnia, addiction to exercise, extreme stress, and hypertension. This chakra enables one to burn away all the crap you no longer need!

Manipura, our source of empowerment, personal power and the energy storehouse of our body. It is vitally important to us in so many ways. If this chakra is not balanced and running in a healthy way, one cannot move the energy up and through to the next chakra. An individual must open their mind to the possibility and existence of Spirit before they can climb the chakra ladder to the connector chakra (Heart Chakra).
Engage this chakra and begin to FEEL THE POWER!
