Living in Joy Part 3: Treat Yourself as a Beloved Child — Late joining this series? Catch up from the beginning with Part 1 or from last week’s Part 2!

We each have an inner child within us who sends us messages and wants to experience the world with childlike wonder.

This inner child wants to have fun, to be treated as a beloved child, and to play. When was the last time you “played?” If it has been too long to remember, you are in need of some loving self-care for your inner child.

I like to keep a photo of me from kindergarten handy to remind myself to treat myself as a beloved child and give my inner young Janette some quality time and attention. Oftentimes, what we loved to do as a child carries over, and helps steer us in the direction of our life’s purpose.

Today, your invitation is to spend a few minutes and nourish your beautiful, precious inner child with a treat. It could be a special meal, drink or activity that you loved as a child. It could be walking in nature.  You get to decide, and your inner child will be so pleased and content. That inner child will have its daily dose of joy to delight its body, mind, and soul. Yes, beloved, be good to you today as you treat yourself as a beloved child.

I’m including some excerpts from my books, “On a Path of Joy” Volumes Two and Three, to further enhance this message that, indeed, you are a beloved child of the Divine and a worthy of living a life of joy. May this article bless your heart with so much love and encouragement. This installment in the Living in Joy series gives you some suggestions for the “how to” of treating yourself as a beloved child of the Divine.

“Here is your invitation today, beautiful one, to enjoy something that tickles your heart and brings childlike joy to you. I love to go to the park and swing. I used to be so self-conscious about it, wondering what others would think. Now, I delight in the feeling of creating so much JOY. Maybe my sense of freedom and wonder in the act will motivate another to go for it also. I have fond childhood memories of my Mom reading me The Swing from Robert Louis Stevenson’s A Child’s Garden of Verses and love to think about those words as I swing. 

What little thing can you do today to delight your heart and bring more FUN into your day? Here’s your permission slip to do just that, beautiful one. Here’s to you on a journey of healing love. 

Here’s an invitation for you to write down a list of future FUN possibilities. Nothing is too silly. Seek what delights your heart, precious one. 

Fun can bring about feelings of joy and be such a loving, healing curative for our soul. By raising your level of joy, your vibration, you automatically help raise others up around you. Bravo, dear one. And so, it is.

Even a few minutes outdoors helps clear our minds, body, and soul of anything that is weighing us down. Being outdoors in the spaciousness of nature is so soothing and helps provide perspective and clarity. It helps us replenish our personal power by increasing our sense of joy. 

How can you let a little bit of the outside world into your day today? Some ideas could be to walk during a work break, eat your lunch or take a break outside. During inclement weather, you can visit a florist, nursery or even enjoy the view from a window in the comfort of your home or office. 

Feel free to use the Notes section at the back of this book to list some ideas for future fun you plan to enjoy or to journal about a favorite spot where you’ve experienced fun.

Today, dear one, consider spending some time doing what you love to do. It doesn’t have to be all day or even for a long period of time. Small increments of time doing what you love not only to benefit you, it helps all of those you interact with during the course of your day.  It increases your level of joy which is contagious. 

You can begin with a small period of time. Even if you can’t actually do what you love, you can use your imagination and relish in the feeling of doing what you love. You can spend ten minutes planning a way to make doing this a reality. Feel free to use the Notes section in the back of this book to journal about doing what you love or to list some items you want to do or places you plan to visit or things you desire doing.

Our best, most creative ideas and inspirations come to us in moments of pleasure, such as in the gift of daydreaming. What a joy it is to just “be” and not “do” anything. Our culture advises against being idle and encourages us to do more, more, more. 

Today, dear heart, listen to the whispers of your soul while taking a few moments out of your busy day to daydream.  Your daydreams will feed your personal power and connect you more deeply to your Creator and to your joy. 

May you delight in the gift of a daydream or two today, beautiful one. 

And so, it is.”

Wrapping you in loving encouragement with this beautiful message that, indeed, you are a beloved Child of the Divine.
