It’s nearing towards the end of summertime, but there’s still lots of hot days ahead. One of the best things you can do to keep cool during the hot, humid days of summer is to eat cooling foods. For example, cucumbers, tomatoes, peaches, watermelon, melons, berries, summer squash, coconut, and avocado. All of these foods, according to Traditional Chinese Medicine, are yin in nature. This means they help to clear heat and toxins from the body.

In the video below, I have shared two smoothie demos made with ingredients that are yin in nature:

Cucumber Pineapple Delight Smoothie
  • 1 peeled cucumber
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple
  • ¼ cup fresh mint
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 drop peppermint essential oil (optional)
  • 12 oz. coconut water
Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Let stand for 1-2minutes allowing chia seeds to absorb coconut water.
  3. Blend until smooth.
Peachy Green Smoothie
  • 1 peach with seed removed
  • 1 scoop protein powder (optional)
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 12 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • ½ -1 cup ice (optional)
Directions:
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth.
  3. Add in additional almond milk for desired consistency.
  4. Pour in glass and enjoy!
