The sacral chakra is the second of the physical chakras of the seven-chakra system.
This chakra called Svadhisthana in Sanskrit loosely means one’s sweetest abode, sweetness, a dwelling place of the self, or one’s own place.
It is also known as the passion chakra, sexuality chakra, or water chakra.
This chakra is situated two inches below the navel in the upper part of the sacrum.
Svadhisthana is associated with the colour orange, the element of water, and governs our physical health and well-being. This chakra is concerned with sensuality, sexuality, physical procreation, pleasure, self-expression, emotions, and abundance.
Individuals generally are living in this chakra from the ages of seven to eleven years old. An individual will not successfully balance the sacral chakra until they are able to have discipline and become mature in nature. When an individual is able to fully develop this chakra they become successful at establishing love with another. This love gives the person the power to grow their consciousness to the point of enlightenment.
This chakra is very important with regards to other chakras in the body. If the sacral chakra becomes depleted or loses its energy, it will suck all the energy from the other chakras in the body. A good way to keep up the energy in the pleasure chakra is to do good things for your entire physical body.
Your emotional nature is governed by this water chakra. As water ebbs and flows so do your emotions. If an individual has a blocked sacral chakra others will see that person as cold emotionally. On the other hand, if this chakra is over loaded the individual will appear to be too emotional in nature.
The chakra of sweetness is a feminine chakra. It carries yin energy and is connected to the moon. When people are in touch with this chakra they can draw on the divine feminine, the goddess, that lies in us all. The ultimate in creativity is when a woman is in the physical act of procreation, pregnant. She is creating life, from the waters that lie within the body, given to us by the Source.
Characteristics of the sacral chakra are:
- Solar System:
- Peace and Wisdom
- Tiger’s Eye
- Orange (any kind)
- Positive – Emperor, Empress
- Negative – Martyr
- East Indian
- Belly Dancing
Because this is the creative chakra there are many activities that open, balance, and energize this energy system. Yoga, in all of its varying forms, connects you to your body which in turn aids in spiritual development. Swimming is also a great form of exercise, as it feeds the physical form by using the element of water. Dancing, especially belly dancing, is also a wonderful form of exercise that uses one’s creative nature to express your emotional state, which in turn connects you to the Divine. Drinking fluids help to cleanse the body and help keep the physical in great working order.
The Sacral chakra is the second important wheel in the seven-chakra system of the body. It’s feminine yin energy is soft and its water nature gives this chakra it’s emotional ebb and flow. Next time you want to connect with this powerful centre do something creative. Generally, when people are in the state of creativity, it also taps into their emotional nature. Which in turn your emotional nature can come out in your physical form. Feed yourself, connect with yourself, become yourself, and be free.
