How many times have we heard the statement, “It’s all in your mind?”

From the best-selling book, “The Secret,” to the teachings of Abraham by Esther and Jerry Hicks, it seems to be everywhere. So, is there any validity to it? I believe there is. Why you ask? The proof is in the people who live their lives according to the, “It’s all in your mind, mindset.” It is also in those who don’t live by that mindset.

Think of your own life and the people you know. We all know at least one person who’s always talking about everything that’s going wrong in their life. It seems that person’s life is a constant battle. Them against the world. That person’s life is then indeed, just that; A constant battle with things going wrong filled with bad luck, so to speak.

On the other hand, think of someone who always seems to have everything go their way. Even in crisis and hard times, there is always something that helps them through. It’s like they are divinely protected. These are the people who look for rainbows and not storms. They are filled with hope. Even in times of hardship, they know all is as it should be, and it will indeed, be ok. Their positive attitude and hope reflect back to them the good in life.

I’m sure we all know people who fit into the two categories above.

Looking at them it’s pretty easy to come to the conclusion that the thoughts they have been/are thinking have definitely brought into their life experience the people, places, things, and events that match their state of mind.

Knowing this, why would anyone knowingly continue to think the negative thoughts and bring those experiences into their lives? Because it’s habit! No-one wakes up one day and decides, “from this day forward I am going to only look for the downside to everything.” That is either learned behavior or it’s someone who has let their negative mindset take control of their lives.

Most of us, I believe, kind of ride in the middle. Some good days and happy thoughts, and some bad days and negative thoughts.

So, how do we start attracting more good into our lives and thinking more positively?

By being conscious of our own thoughts and focusing on the good in life. Sounds simple, right? I think most of us know firsthand it is not always. The only way to attract the good we want is by changing the way we think and what we focus on. It really is all in our minds. No one can do it for us.

Everything is made up of vibrations. That is a fact. Our thoughts and feelings are what determine our personal vibration. We can only attract and bring into our lives people, places, things, and events that match our own vibration.

I find the easiest way to begin to raise my vibration is through Gratitude. It’s very difficult to be grateful and miserable at the same time. Those vibrations are on opposite sides of the spectrum. Once we begin feeling grateful for what we have in life, life sends us more things to be grateful for. It’s the law of attraction.

Another way is with Affirmations.

I personally love affirmations and you can even get affirmation apps for cell phones now and some are even free. Saying affirmations and feeling them at your core not only makes you feel amazing but you are telling your mind them repeatedly. As long as it’s done while you’re feeling positive, and feeling the happiness and hope inside, affirmations can definitely change your life. Feeling and believing in them is the key to them working.

When it comes to the statement, “it’s all in your mind,” I can’t help but think of the saying, “you reap what you sow.” I personally don’t believe that solely means regarding behavior. I also believe that means our thoughts as well. You cannot think unhappy thoughts and live a happy life and vice versa, so we truly do reap what we sow.

The choice is ultimately our own; what kind of life do we want?

Do we want to live happily, feeling amazing, with good luck and positive opportunities at every turn? Well then, it’s time to adjust our thoughts accordingly. We can be, do, and have whatever it is we want in this life, as long as we believe that we can. We are the only ones who can ever deny ourselves anything by allowing negative thoughts and patterns to persist and hijack our happiness.

We are in control of our future and we can make it whatever we want it to be.
