10 Weekend Getaway Ideas to Help You to Refuel by Rosanne Orlando #TheWellnessUniverse #WUVIP #WeekendGetAway #Refuel

The word refuel reminds me of fueling our cars, but let’s not forget our bodies need fueling too.

To function happily and healthily people not only need to nutritionally fuel their bodies, still a difficult concept for some to grasp, but they also need encouragement to stop and refuel their minds. I find that most people think of stopping to recharge themselves is a dream. It doesn’t have to be a dream, you just have to prioritize it.

I hope this list helps you start thinking of how you can begin rejuvenating yourself. It’s of utmost importance for you, and I promise that those in your circle will benefit too. I have tried to encompass all types of events to quell those financial, time, and distance concerns. This should help you limit excuses and stop you from being a prisoner to the “I can’t because” thoughts.

Here Are 10 Weekend Getaway Ideas to Help You to Refuel:

  1. Do Something Random.

Use an application like Groupon or Living Social to find a fun, random activity.

  1. Staycation.

Have a staycation in the backyard or basement (invite the kids or not). Turn that phone off!

  1. Follow A Trip Advisor Suggestion.

Check out Trip Advisor, Yelp, or your Maps application. There are always great suggestions in the “things to do” or “attractions” sections. I’ve found some pretty cool museums simply by looking at the map and seeing what is close by!

  1. Hiking.

Go on a hike or do something active. You can find great ideas on websites like https://www.alltrails.com/.

  1. Go Somewhere Off-Season.

My husband and I love Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor, Long Island. The idea can be utilized anywhere.  At peak season, Baron’s Cove is a very expensive boutique hotel but is just as nice in the off-season when it’s less expensive and way less crowded. They have a lot of nice little areas where you can curl up with a book. I recommend, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, by Mark Manson.

  1. Tourist for the Day.

Check out your closest city and pretend you’re a tourist. Pro tip: Don’t do a double-decker bus tour on the weekend or at rush hour. You might end up sitting in traffic and having to listen to the tour guide ramble on.

  1. Check out a local quiet spot.

Old-time bookstores are my favorite.

  1. Casinos.

Go to a local casino and try your luck at one of the games.

  1. Comedy Shows.

Get your laugh on at a comedy show. You can go to a local venue and catch some up-and-coming comedians or travel further for a big-name performer. Make a whole weekend out of it!

  1. Discover Locally.

Travel to a famous spot or a hideaway. If you Google, “hidden gems of (insert your town),” I bet you can find some good stuff.

Most importantly, do something you enjoy. I’ll bet that whether you do something big or not, if you’re truly enjoying yourself, you’re guaranteed to boost those endorphins and fill up your tank!
