The Earth is what we all have in common. – Wendell Berry

Please join the world with care by celebrating Earth Day Monday, April 22nd.

This year’s theme is “Protect Our Species.” (*) Earth Day is an intentional day affirming not only our amazing planet but also how we can better care for Mother Earth. Planet earth exquisitely sustains and supports all life while offering our senses and souls unimaginable scenic beauty.

Earth Day gives us cause to pause, reflect and take note of “her” abundance and how each of us can take an active role in caring for the precious resources of the environment.

Our time to move from intention to compassionate action is today. The world needs you to take charge and champion more hands-on care by doing even the smallest actions like turning off the lights at home when not in use. May you mindfully enjoy with all your senses the beauty of our great Earth on Earth Day 2019! Check out the following user-friendly, planet-loving tips shared below.

Here Are 20 Tips to Save Our Planet:

  1. Reduce the use of plastics.

Think disposable water bottles and sadly just about everything purchased for food consumption from grocery to restaurant take-out.

  1. Plant a tree.

Not only is this good for the environment and air but trees bring shade and beauty.

  1. Eat less meat.

The meat industry generates nearly one-fifth of man-made greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Eating less meat will reduce this and preserve precious resources.

  1. Eat more fruits, legumes, seeds, and veggies.

Changing up your eating to include meat-free meals while including vegetable-based meals goes a long way over time to reduce greenhouse gases and maintain lands.

  1. Learn how to reduce your ecological footprint.

Electric cars, bikes, and walking are all good ways to create impact.

  1. Take the pesticide pledge.

If using pesticides in the home and outdoors educate yourself on potential issues these toxic chemicals carry not only for our land but ultimately us as these make their way into rivers, lakes, streams and pollute our food and drinking water.

  1. Create your own “green act.”

Name your way to be “green” at home as a start such as buying local produce, container gardening on deck, patio or porch. Ride-sharing. Buying biodegradable picnic ware or using glass or aluminum food storage containers.

  1. Use energy efficient light bulbs.

Replace old bulbs with LED bulbs. These last a long time while using less energy.

  1. Recycle.

Keep as much out of the landfill as you can by recycling items such as glass, cardboard, metal, and plastic. Imagine, if everyone from individuals to businesses intentionally recycled, the positive impact this would have on our entire planet!

  1. Responsible diaper purchasing.

Look for eco-friendly diapers free of chemicals and easy on the environment. If possible, use a cloth diaper delivery service!

  1. Bring your own bags to grocery shop.

These plastic grocery bags are clogging our earth and harming wildlife.

  1. Donate your unwanted household items and clothing.

Instead of throwing things out give them away to be used and enjoyed and resold by others

  1. Use E-Tickets.

Save a tree, save our landfills and go digital. This is so easy for everyone and very impactful in the long run.

  1. Go Digital.

Go digital with all statements and receipts. See #13.

  1. Share your earth-friendly knowledge with others.

Share what you are doing to sustain and maintain the environment.

  1. Support a nonprofit that tackles earth issues.

Donate to nonprofits whose cause is to fight the good fight for our planet. They are doing good things. We need them!

  1. Buy energy efficient appliances.

This alone will decrease your energy bill and help the planet.

  1. Control the thermostat at home.

Use a “smart home” app on your phone or device that helps you control heating and cooling while away and while home. Maintain comfortable heating and cooling temperatures while using less energy to help out on usage and environmental impact.

  1. Buy local produce and meats at your farmers market.

Buying local cuts back on fuel needed to transport food to market and gives you the best of tasty fresh seasonal produce and local meats.

  1. Reduce at-home water use.

This can be as simple as turning off the tap when brushing your teeth. Taking a shower as opposed to bathing and decreasing your shower time.
