3 Healthy Tea Recipes and Beneficial Herbs

3 Healthy Tea Recipes and Beneficial Herbs by Dru Ann Welch #TheWellnessUniverse #WUVIP #WUWorldChanger #Herbs #HealthyTeas

One day, many years ago a friend was moving out of the state and needed to clear out her herb cabinet.

I was just learning about herbs and jumped at the opportunity when she offered me her herbs. I put them all on a shelf, organized them by name, and then just looked at them. It was at that moment that I knew I had no idea how to use most of these herbs. This set me on a quest for knowledge.

I wrote a list of the herbs I had been given and took to the internet as well as several herbal reference books I had purchased. As I delved in, I began to see how the herbs could be combined to make one of my favorite things… tea!

Over the years, I kept this list and added to it, each time I learned more or acquired a new herb I listed the many ways it could be used for healing. I eventually included this as part of a class I was teaching.  My student remarked that I should make it into a book and that is how Mama D’s Practical Herbal Guidebook was born.

Half the fun of learning about all my herbs was inventing ways to put them together to make healthy teas.

A family favorite quickly became my Cramp Tea. My daughter has used it for years and used to take it to school to share with friends.

  1. Here Is the Recipe for Cramp Tea:

  • In a medium-sized tea ball, combine equal amounts Cramp Bark, Marshmallow Root, Chamomile and Nettle Leaf.
  • Place the tea ball in a large cup of hot water until dark, remove the tea ball and enjoy!
  • The Cramp Bark alone would work but the Marshmallow, Chamomile, and Nettle really boost the effectiveness of the tea.

People are always looking to give their immune system a boost, and I have just the tea for that!

  1. Here Is the Recipe for the Immune Boost Tea:

  • In a tea ball, combine equal parts Burdock Root, Gotu Kola, Nettle Leaf, Boneset and Lavender.
  • Place tea ball in a large cup of hot water until liquid is a medium dark color and enjoy!

Looking for a more natural energy mixture? I have a healthy tea recipe for that, too!

  1. Here Is the Recipe for More Natural Energy Tea:

  • Combine equal parts Ashwagandha Root, Gotu Kola, Lemon Balm, Nettle Leaf in a tea ball.
  • Place tea ball in a large cup of hot water until liquid is a medium dark color and enjoy!

It really becomes a matter of looking at what you have on your shelf and how you can combine these herbs to make a healthy tea that you can enjoy. Here is a list of some common health issues and herbs that can be used in teas to help your symptoms

Anti-Inflammatory:

  • Meadowsweet.
  • White Willow Bark.

Relaxation:

  • Camomille.
  • Catnip.
  • Lavender.
  • Lemon Verbena.
  • Spearmint.

Women’s Health:

  • Cramp Bark.
  • Dandelion.
  • Dong Quai.
  • Elder Flower.
  • Marshmallow Root.

And that is just a beginning list!

So, what herbs would I suggest putting in your herb cabinet so you can make a variety of healthy teas? One of my favorite go-to’s is Marshmallow Root. This lovely herb can help with kidney issues, men’s health, women’s health, immune boosting, sinus issues, and sore throats just to name a few things.

Next, on my list is Nettle Leaf. With this herb, it is more a question of what it can’t do rather than listing its many healthful qualities.

Staying with the “what can’t it do” theme, next up is Lavender. Besides being soothing this little herb is used to fight immunity and help with insomnia.  It also has a lovely, light flavor that can be used to brighten up any healthy tea.

A gentle reminder is that often herbs although good for you are not so great tasting. Some teas are more pungent than others. You can always add honey, lemon, or lavender to improve the flavor of your healthy tea choices.

I hope this inspires you to get out there, mix and match and come up with your own fabulous healthy tea recipes.
