Apple cider vinegar is a vinegar made from apples, sugar, and yeast.
Vinegar has a long history as a home remedy to a wide variety of ailments; it has been used as a remedy since the days of Hippocrates. Vinegar has chemicals known as polyphenols, which are antioxidants that can slow down cell damage and perhaps even kill or prevent cancer cells, although this hasn’t been scientifically proven yet.
It has seemingly earned a bit of a “miracle cure” status in the modern healthy lifestyle space. In this article, I will share some of the amazing benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, or ACV, as the cool kids call it.
Here are 5 Healing Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar:
Regulates Blood Sugar Levels.
In one study, vinegar consumption was found to decrease blood sugar levels by an average of 31 percent after eating white bread. ACV may also increase insulin sensitivity.
Fights Bacteria and Improves Skin Health.
Adding just a cup of ACV to your next bath will do so much for you, including helping with any skin conditions, soothing sunburn, and provide relief to any aching joints. Use it as a natural facial toner to help fight acne!
Bonus Tip: Add it to your shampoo or make a simple ACV/water hair rinse to help fight dandruff.
Enhances Weight Loss.
In one study, consuming two tablespoons per day of ACV over three months resulting in nearly 4 pounds of weight loos with no other modifications to diet or lifestyle. (Imagine if you added in healthy changes to diet and lifestyle to the mix!). The acetic acid suppresses your appetite, increases your metabolism, and reduces water retention.
Clears Stuffy Sinuses.
Next time you’re suffering from allergies or have a cold, try a teaspoon of ACV in a glass of water vs. medication. The potassium thins mucus and the acetic acid prevents germ growth, which could be causing nasal congestion.
Boosts Energy Levels.
Everyone seems to be complaining of fatigue. While earlier bedtimes and more rest is a priority fix to fatigue first and foremost, the amino acids in ACV can act as an antidote. The potassium and enzymes may relieve that tired feeling. So instead of the afternoon cup of coffee, try adding 1-2 tablespoons of ACV to a fruit juice or vegetable drink to boost your energy!
It only takes 1 teaspoon – 2 tablespoons of ACV per day to yield some of the above benefits, either used in cooking or diluted and mixed in a glass of water. Do not ever drink straight as it can burn your throat and/or esophagus, and can also wear away at your tooth enamel! When used for a bath, 1-2 cups would be best.
