Your coach helps you find the answers and courage you need to make changes.

Wellness coaches want to get to know you and are trained in active listening. They will create a space for you as you reflect and share your answers to the tough questions I mentioned. Most people just want to be seen and heard, they want to know that someone is on their side and hears their struggles. Your coach does just that, they are there to listen without passing judgment and to help you process the revelations and feelings that come up during this work.

Our health care system is designed to treat the sick through medication and surgery. Sometimes this is just a band-aid solution to cover up what is really going on with our health. A wellness coach takes a more holistic viewpoint digging deeper, looking at your nutrition, sleep habits, stress levels, thought patterns, exercise routine, etc. Many underlying factors can contribute to the sicknesses and diseases we experience. Your wellness coach will focus on prevention, not only intervention.

All our behaviors are related to the thoughts we think about ourselves. When we hold onto our limiting beliefs and engage in negative self-talk, we tend to participate in negative behaviors. We do not believe we can stick to an exercise plan or feel that meal prepping is too hard. A wellness coach works with you to assess your mindset and bring awareness to your thought patterns. When you start to know your self-worth and love yourself, your behaviors change. You put more value on your life and create a lifestyle of healthy habits.

We are more likely to stick with our goals if we have someone doing a program along with us or checking in with us regularly. Your coach knows your goals, creates an action plan with you, and helps monitor your success. It is harder to give up or quit when someone is counting on us. We can make excuses, but we don’t want to disappoint others.

Now that I have convinced you to try working with a wellness coach, here are a couple of things to consider. Find a coach who has attended a coaching program and is certified. They will be trained in the art of asking questions and listening. They will also probably know more about different nutrition theories and conditions related to eating and sleeping habits. They will also be able to help you create meal plans and fitness routines.

Not all coaches are created equal, so find one who shares your values and your vibe. This person will know intimate details about your life as they help you create sustainable healthy habits. You want to make sure you get along with this person and enjoy speaking with them every week.
