We all have goals and visions for what we want our life to be, the experience we have on this planet, and how we are remembered. As kids, we dreamed constantly about what our life would be like, the things we would have, and the passions that we would follow.

Sometimes, we can forget to put ourselves in the mindset space we need to in order to not only create goals but allow ourselves to dream for them in the first place. It’s a really good thing to dream because that’s the first step in making it a reality. What you think on, is what you focus on.

If today you’re in a place where you have dreams or you want to start dreaming again, then you’re going to love these tips. They’ll show you how you can achieve your dreams, no matter where you’re starting from or how big your dream is.

Here Are 6 Steps to Achieving Your Dreams:

  1. Decide What You Want

The first step is getting down on paper what it is that you actually want in life. Write down all the things that you want to be, do, and have in this world. Including money, travel, relationships, experiences, spirituality, lifestyle, homes, possessions, charities, philanthropy, career, and anything else you can think of.

Be as specific as possible, staying away from things like “I just want to be happier” and write down exactly what you’d like in your life that would contribute to your happiness. Don’t be afraid to make a nice, long list that encompasses every area of your life.

  1. Choose the Timeline for Getting It Done

Once you know what you want, then you need to categorize it into areas of Now, Next & Then. There are some things that you’ll want to have happen right away, say within the next 3 to 6 months, while there are others that are more 1-3 years down the line.

The Now category is what you want to immediately work on, the Next is a year or so from today, and the last section of Then are things that you feel would be really cool if they happen at some point in your future. We separate it out like this so you can practical, specific action towards your dreams in small steps because that’s how it becomes real.

  1. Do the Research You Need

Research what needs to happen for you to reach the dreams in your Now category. Sometimes you already know the right next step, and the minute you made that goal and started dreaming again your mind said “Yep! This is what I need to do.”

Other times, it may take a bit of searching to figure out how you want to work on it. If that’s the case, then it’s your time to trust that the right strategy is already out there and all you need to do is find it and implement it.

  1. Anchor Your Dreams and Goals

We work towards what we see, and our goals and dreams are no different. There will be days where your motivation is low, where the smallest tasks feel like the biggest challenges in your day, and you’d rather be doing anything else than what you need to.

It’s a normal part of human behavior and fortunately there’s a simple (and free!) way to help you stay connected to your goals. It’s called anchoring.

Write down your Now goals into automatic calendar reminders that will pop up on your phone and congratulate you for accomplishing your dream. Next, create a vision board and make it your computer home screen or find a mantra that will motivate you and make it your phone background. That visualization will create a pattern interrupt when you start to feel unmotivated or discouraged and remind yourself of what you’re working for in the first place.

  1. Take A Small Action Every Day

Small consistent action is better than big waves that leave gaps and confusion. Your dreams will become possible when you consistently work on them, no matter how small the action is. Think of like drinking water or brushing your teeth, every day is important for you to keep going in the right direction.

This doesn’t mean that you have to do all the things, all the time and burn yourself out. Quite the opposite. Your small action today could be writing down your goals and doing a round of EFT or tapping to refocus and re-center. Any action that will help you mentally, emotionally, and physically get closer to your goal is the right next step.

  1. Let the Seed Grow and Keep at It

Keep working on your Now goals so that the Next and Then dreams start to take root in your belief system as something that’s possible to achieve. As you reach your immediate 3-6-month dreams, you’ll start to prove yourself that it is possible to be, do and have it all.

Sometimes seeing really is believing, and we need evidence in small doses that we can take the next step and make it happen for ourselves. Keep on going and stay connected to those anchors that remind you of what you’re working and dreaming for.
