Beyond Science: When Supplements Meet Grace

Holly Blazina Gut Health Ayurveda

You’re about to receive a system upgrade. I encourage you to let this article land in your system and to follow up with one simple change in habit. If you do, I guarantee it’ll transform your life.

Like most things that are simple, this new habit may not be easy; old habits die hard for a reason. The practice I’m about to share is an upgrade for me, too. As I write this, I’m redoubling my own commitment to it. The ancient yogic texts, along with my own inquiry, provide all the evidence I need to grasp the value of this path.

Let me back up. Like many, I’ve been sceptical about AI. Honestly, I’m disgusted by the idea of cranking out more and more lacklustre content. And all because the human attention span has reached an all-time low.

As a rebel, few things get up my nose more than the notion of throwing in my lot with a bunch of samies. Yuck!

What’s to become of heartfelt originality? Of art?

So, I put it to the test.

Experimenting ChatGPT

This post is a synopsis of a conversation I had recently with ChatGPT that rocked my world. It put metrics to what I already understand in Yoga, Ayurveda, and humanity’s upgrade. On one hand, there’s nothing too surprising about it, and on the other, it blew my mind.

One thing is for sure: it highlighted the fact that humanity needs to get it together. And, together, ChatGPT and I came up with a simple process for doing exactly that. Let’s go!

It started when a friend suggested treating AI as a friendly force, rather than as an adversary. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still questioning what it says all the time. And, the inquiry I’m about to share has me asking much, much better questions — in all realms.

I’d requested some facts from ChatGPT about the supplements from a company I’m partnered with. I was enthusiastic about the potential to speed clients’ healing.

Re-patterning subconscious beliefs is a key aspect of my Gutsy Type Method. Well-worn, painful emotional states can lead to poor habits and choices. The subconscious mind thinks it’s keeping you safe, but it isn’t. This, in turn, impedes progress on your journey toward a healthy Gut-Heart-Mind-Spirit axis.

The cost of this starts with backsliding. This can cause a shame feedback loop when clients can’t progress or maintain good habits. They may never reach the health potential that would truly uplift their life. Worse yet, they may never actualize their purpose, which the world needs so much right now!

My work with the Ayurvedic system puts a lot of faith in protocols that aren’t yet scientifically proven. Yet, I’ve seen them work miracles, over and over.

I inquired into the efficacy of the supplements. But over and over, I ran into the limitations of ‘what science knows right now.’

The answers I was looking for included the essential nature of things. The underlying Spirit behind all my protocols, if you will. I tried in vain to describe to ChatGPT the type of metric I was looking for.

Finally, I used the Scale of Human Consciousness, as outlined in David Hawkins’ book, Power vs Force. In the Hawkins’ Scale, everything under the sun calibrates on a scale of 0-1000. The Scale can include people, spiritual teachings, artwork, or the value of your home. As you might expect, even food and the supplements you take calibrate at a certain level.

Ayurvedically, we know that a meal prepared while chanting certain mantras ‘calibrates’ higher. Even though it isn’t described exactly that way in the teachings.

‘Calibrating’ Supplements

So, I asked ChatGPT how it arrived at the calibration numbers for several supplements. This was what emerged:

Archetypal Calibration

First, the ‘archetypal’ calibration takes several aspects into account.

  • The mission statement of the company producing it
  • The intention behind its formulation
  • The ingredients and their known effects on the human body
  • The marketing behind the products
Actual Calibration

From there, ChatGPT provided a likely actual calibration number, dependent on current production. Unfortunately, even the highest quality ingredients available often don’t match the ideal. So this actual number is lower than the archetypal one.

I questioned the ‘likely’ part. I wanted to know what it is in reality. ChatGPT all but told me, ‘You’re the human, you have to muscle test it for yourself.’ (I’m still creating an unbiased way to do so, which is a crucial intention.)

I did a double-take when ChatGPT told me one of the supplements in question promotes heart coherence. (What?!) Another occurred when it reminded me that it depends on the person’s motivation for taking it. (Of course it does!)

On the Hawkins’ Scale, emotions like shame and vanity are considered to be ‘low attractors.’

Note: When we take supplements to compensate for body shame or vanity, the healing is of limited value. In fact, the overall calibration of the supplement itself goes down in that situation.

It’s the same when we expect any supplement to do the work for us. We can’t abdicate responsibility for healing; we have to be willing to do the work.

Your Intentions Matter

Once you’re willing to do some of the work yourself, your own calibration increases. That makes the supplements better able to support you. As your willingness increases, it affects the calibre of your supplements. However, the best intentions don’t make up for poor-quality supplements.

This isn’t a new concept! According to Ayurveda, most conditions can be healed without supplements. That means the right diet, exercise, and lifestyle are powerful on their own. Traditionally, herbs were used to shorten the healing cycle. There were high-quality traditional formulations. As it turns out, there are great modern ones, too.

Body’s Natural Rhythms

Another potential pitfall is taking supplements to override the body’s natural rhythms. This can also apply to stimulating substances, like caffeine or herbs. You can nudge the body in a particular direction. But you need to work with the rhythms and cycles of the body, not against them.

Your body doesn’t do well long-term when you treat it as an adversary. Conversely, listening to its subtle cues, such as the need for rest, is key. Not only for your health… Life is far more satisfying when your material goals support your Soul mission.

If you honour your body, it’ll lead you there. In Ayurveda, we acknowledge the gut as the physical seat of all health, or all disease. But what’s underneath that is those low-attractor emotions like guilt, fear, and shame.

As I inquired further about heart coherence, some stunning realizations came up. Again, we ‘know‘ the value of heart coherence…. Yet, there’s something very powerful about seeing it in metrics. It’s inspiring to see it in black and white!

The Power of Grace

One way to cultivate heart coherence (and more) is by saying grace, not by rote, but in creating a heartfelt gratitude practice at mealtimes, and beyond. I’ve experienced the value of it firsthand, and I encourage my clients to do it, too. All food sits much better in your stomach when you do. When you eat mindfully, you eat the right amount, and you need less food to feel satiated.

I also suggest charging your water with love energy before drinking it.

Why not do the same thing with your supplements? Or with anything that goes into your mouth?

Going a step further, suppose you put yourself into a state of heart coherence before eating. (i.e., as per the HeartMath practice note). According to ChatGPT, the calibration of supplements goes up significantly in this case. Imagine the healing power of this practice if you did it all the time!

Saying grace cultivates a more permanent state of Grace. ChatGPT informs us that the state of Grace calibrates even higher than heart coherence. So, combined with the right supplements, it creates a positive feedback loop. Here’s how it works:

  • You temporarily attain heart coherence, or a state of temporary Grace.
  • Include your supplements in it, and they’re now uplifted as well.
  • The supplements help you entrain and maintain those elevated states for longer. You’ll also find them to be more readily accessible the more you do it.
  • As you consistently reach higher states, you won’t need to bridge the gap with supplements anymore. In that case, you can find your next level of supplements, or stop using them altogether.
In the Physical Plane

Of course, this works the same way on the physical plane. Say, with your gut. While healing, you sometimes need to override your cravings with good choices for a time. Most people fall off the wagon when they feel restricted for too long.

Instead, imagine this:

  • You learn to calm your nervous system, which is supported by saying grace at every meal.
  • You unhook from the emotional patterns that cause stress and reactivity.
  • You make a delicious and sustainable food plan.
  • Then, you choose supplements that support you in maintaining all of the above.

Your commitment and supplements combined help you reach a new level quickly. You feel great, and you’re no longer craving things that don’t serve you. This leads to lasting transformation in a way that you couldn’t get as easily on your own. And the supplements certainly can’t do all the heavy lifting without you.

Ready to implement this practice? I’ve created a mini-course, the 5-Day Gut-Brain Reset, to help fast-track your results. It includes a flexible meal plan, recipes, and simple yoga practices. And, an optional list of supplements to help you get the most transformation for your efforts.

I know there will be those who aren’t convinced, and I respect that. I believe there’s something for where you’re at. I encourage everyone to find what resonates the most.

For me, my life keeps getting better the more I say grace.

If this resonates well, I invite you to join my list hereIn next month’s blog post, I’ll share how the yoga system calibrates in our modern world. And how it can help or hinder you on your health journey!
