Building Resilience Through Walking Our Talk
Today we hear from …
Janette shares the self-care story that helped her show up as her best self at the Resilience for Everyday event while navigating a stressful family situation.
Resilience for Everyday Self-Care Leading to June 4
“Mom, sometimes life hits you with a baseball bat,” my son said during this challenging period in his young life.
Not only was my son dealing with chronic back pain and pending surgery, but his fiancé was also suffering from a brain aneurism. They were moving across the country, selling his house, and buying a new one there while getting ready for a new job.
Any single one of these items is a major life stressor. To experience them all at once is almost too much to comprehend or bear.
My Momma’s heart was working overtime. How can I help? What can I do to make everything better? What’s possible from a thousand miles away?
I told a trusted friend, “I feel like a lumberjack during a log-rolling competition. You know the scenario when two loggers are standing on a log in the middle of a lake and trying to keep their balance while dislodging the other overboard. The last man standing wins.”
It was not lost on me that this scene played in the background, and sometimes in the forefront of my life as I prepared to co-host an event about Resilience for Everyday.
I needed to employ my self-care tools to find my center, be in peace and move forward. I needed to be resilient, bend without breaking, and bounce back easily and gracefully.
Here are some of the self-care practices I employed to boost my resiliency.
- Rest
- Swaddling
- Tender self-care
- Prayer
- Tea
- Peaceful music
- Divine Connection
- Uplifting friend connection and support
- Nature
The questions I would ask myself were:
- What is the lesson for me in this situation?
- How do I want to show up?
- What can I do to best help them?
Within a few days of our Resilience for Everyday event, my son’s post-surgical pain improved, they sold their house, his fiancé got a clean bill of health, and life started feeling much more relaxed.
Self-Care Tips to Boost Your Resilience helped me motor through that challenging time. I demonstrated some practical tips, tools, and techniques during the event.
To further boost your resiliency, I also have a complimentary Self-Care Rituals eBook. You can sign-up to get yours HERE
This donation-based event is supported by a pay-what-you-can donation upon registration, during the live event, or anytime for the recording. The event is available to all who would like to attend. You can also make a donation HERE
