Recently I attended a webinar conducted by Mind Valley Academy featuring Donna Eden, a pioneer in the energy medicine field. I had an opportunity to meet her several years ago during the Omega Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.

I came across energy medicine while doing an internship with cancer patients in Miami in 2002.

I have always been interested in learning more about the non-medical approach to treating mental health disorders. I believe that antidepressants and similar medication are too often prescribed, when changes can be accomplished in a much more natural and healthy way. I conducted stress release groups for cancer patients that included guided meditation/imagery. These complementary treatments cannot really “cure” disease; however, they work with our subconscious mind.

As a part of my internship, I also became a Reiki practitioner and was not even aware I had special gifts.

For those of you who are not familiar with Reiki, it is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress reduction that also promotes healing. It is administered by the “laying on of hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. It was developed in 1922, by the Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui.

Energy medicine is both a complement to other medical care approaches and a complete system of self-care and self-help.

It can address physical illness and emotional or mental disorders, and can also promote high-level wellness and peak performance. You heal the body by activating its natural healing energies, and by restoring energies that have become weak, disturbed, or out of balance.

By learning simple energy techniques you can improve your health, sharpen your mind, minimize stress, and increase your joy and vitality. I can assure you, your husband or wife will be happy, too.

Donna Eden was sharing how she healed herself in her 30’s when doctors had given up on her because of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), allergies, asthma and several other illnesses by developing her own energy medicine protocols. I just wanted to share two techniques with you today, but you can learn more information on classes and self-study programs on her website. In addition to being a Reiki Level II practitioner, I have also been using “muscle testing,” a technique from kinesiology, to get answers to my questions. Our bodies never lie!

  1. Technique 1: Re-energize yourself
  • Take your right hand and put it over the left shoulder
  • Push into your shoulder
  • Drag towards your opposite hip
  • Repeat with the other hand
  1. Technique 2: Conquering Stress
  • Place your thumbs on your temples
  • Softly rub your forehead on the sides
  • Allow stress to dissipate
