Essential oils have been around for over 5,000 years, but for years people have seemed reluctant to use them.

As an Aromatherapist and formulator, I feel that the tide is changing and more than ever my clients are looking for natural healing solutions. One of the leading factors driving this sudden change is people are incredibly concerned about the effects of chemical-filled products and the increasingly dangerous side-effects of medications.

Now, more than ever, people are choosing a more holistic approach to healing their body and mind.

Essential oils when properly administered, produce no harmful side-effects, provide relief from health challenges, and so much more. When we use essential oils, we work in accordance with holistic principles by awakening and strengthening vital energies and self-healing capabilities.

Here are My 5 Essential Oil Favorites and their Benefits:

  1. Cypress.

Cypress is obtained through steam distillation of young twigs, stems, and needles of the cypress tree.

Benefits:

  • Wonderful for Oily Skin.
  • Eases Menstrual Cramping.
  • Deodorizer.
  • Supports Hormone Balance.
  • Helps Strengthen Gums.
  • Supports Wound Care.

Blends Well With:

  • Clary Sage.
  • Lemon.
  • Lavender.
  • Orange.

DIY Recipe:

Create an effective acne fighter:

  • Add 5 to 6 drops to an 8oz bottle of witch hazel.
  1. Vetiver.

Vetiver is also obtained through steam distillation of the roots of vetiver tropical grass.

  • Grounding.
  • Aphrodisiac.
  • Balancing.
  • Aids in Helping Focus.

Get-Grounded Diffusing Blend:

  • 4 Drops Vetiver.
  • 2 Drops Clary Sage.
  • 3 Drops Lemon.
  1. Ylang-Ylang.

Ylang-Ylang is another oil created by steam distillation by using the fresh flowers of the ylang-ylang tree. These trees can be found in the rainforests of certain Asian and South Pacific Islands like Indonesia, Philippines, Comoro, and Polynesia.

  • Diffuse or add to your bath/massage oil.
  • 14 Drops Ylang-Ylang.
  • 6 Drops of Clary Sage.
  • 5 Drops Neroli.
  1. Lemongrass.

This essential oil is distilled from the Cymbopogon flexuosus and the Cymbopogon citratus grass.

  • 6 oz of Fractionated Coconut Oil.
  • 6 to 8 drops of Grapefruit.
  • 3 to 4 drops of Rosemary.
