Essential Oils can help you move on and heal from emotional pain and trauma.

Trauma and abuse can come in many forms from verbal to physical, and the effects can last a lifetime. In most cases, we carry these traumas with us for years or even decades. Studies have shown trauma is making many of us physically sick; it is time to let them go.

How Essential Oils Help Us Release Pain:

Once we inhale an essential oil, the odor molecules travel through our nasal cavity and trigger electrical impulses in our olfactory which immediately transmits the pulses to the amygdala; this is the part of the brain where we house our emotional memories. The only way to stimulate the Amygdala is with fragrance or through the sense of smell. As the scent passes through the amygdala, it then moves to the hippocampus. The hippocampus is where our brain fields memory and cognition.

FUN FACT: Smell travels faster to the brain than any other sense.

This is just one key reason why essential oils work so well in helping us to erase and or rewrite emotional memories.

Scent can also invoke positive memories too; like when I smell freshly baked bread I instantly go back to my grandmother’s house. Essential oils enable us to access suppressed emotions giving us the ability to not only to acknowledge them but to release them.

How to Use Oils When Clearing Trauma:

  • Diffuse.
  • Apply directly to the area the trauma occurred (using a carrier oil along with the essential oil).
  • Massage with essential oils.
  • Use warm compresses.
  • Apply behind the ear.
  • Apply across the forehead.

FUN FACT: Oils can release cellular memories stored anywhere in the body, depending on the oil and where you apply it.

Choosing the Correct Essential Oil for Emotional Support:

There isn’t just one right oil; like with everything else one size does not fit all, and not all oils will invoke an emotional response. However, several oils have shown great promise in the area of emotional healing and release.

Shared below are a few oils I have used when working through my own emotional support and trauma, and also a few I have used with my clients:

  1. Harmony:

Allows for physical and emotional healing, encouraging a harmonic balance in the body.

  1. Cedarwood:

Cedarwood helps deprogram our cellular memory allowing us to release habits/or emotions that no longer serve us.

  1. Trauma Life-Calming:

A blend of therapeutic grade oils that may help release buried emotional trauma.

  1. Bergamot:

Encourages the release of pent-up feelings; helps direct nervous energy allowing us to relax and let go.

  1. Lemongrass:

Lemongrass is a powerful cleanser of energy while assisting one to let go of stagnant energy and past issues.

  1. Marjoram:

Softens our heart and supports healing from our past.

  1. Spikenard:

Supports replacing despair and resentment with acceptance and compassion; instills us with a profound sense of peace.

  1. Ylang Ylang:

May release bottled anger and or sadness; is a forceful remedy for releasing emotional trauma from our past.

  1. Pine:

Replaces guilt and remorse with acceptance and forgiveness.

Essential oils can be a dynamic tool when working through emotional trauma.

I believe the essential oil chooses you and each oil carries a specific message for its user. Quiet your mind and listen; it’s time to move on through your pain and begin to create the joyful life you deserve.
