What to Look for When Purchasing Oils?
With so many brands out there shouting that they’re the BEST, how does one choose the right one when purchasing essential oils?
The answer is carefully, and if possible, with the help of a person who has knowledge of each brand. Below, I have listed 10 things to look for when you venture out on your essential oils journey.
Here are 10 Things to Look for When Purchasing Oils:
Does the Essential Oil Company Conduct INDEPENDENT Third-Party Testing?
What third-party testing does, is it certifies that an independent organization has reviewed the manufacturing process of a product and has determined that the final product complies with specific standards for safety, quality, and or performance.
Is the Company Using Proper Environmental Practices when Harvesting their Products?
It is important for the integrity of the essential oil and on the indigenous areas where these oils are harvested. A company should take great care when procuring these plants.
Does the Company Own its Own Farms, or Do They Buy from other Sources?
Are those sources regulated? Piggybacking off the answer above, this is another area that as a consumer of essential oils, you want to know the source of the oils you are buying. Are their farms controlled? Are their seeds controlled? Both are important when it comes down to producing pure therapeutic grade essential oils.
Does the Essential Oil Contain Synthetic Ingredients?
Many blends that you find can have both essential oils and fragrance oils (synthetics). Therefore, label reading is important. Always read labels before purchasing any essential oil, and if you’re not sure, don’t buy it.
Look for Exceptional Customer Service.
This might not seem important, but it truly is, especially when you’re new to essential oils. You want someone who can guide and assist you if any issues were to arise.
How are the Oils Packaged?
The oils should be packaged in dark glass bottles to avoid deterioration and protect the therapeutic properties of the essential oil.
Do You Know the Essential Oil You’re Looking for?
For instance, if you’re looking for German Chamomile, buy only German Chamomile. If the label says, Chamomile 9 times out of 10 it is a blend of several different cheaper types of Chamomile. Each Chamomile has its very own unique composition and therapeutic properties.
Price Does Matter!
I can assure if you’re purchasing a 5mL bottle of Rose essential oil and it cost $5 bucks, then you’re NOT getting pure Rose essential oil. It can take up to 245,000 rose petals to make just one 5mL bottle, so again, price does matter.
Look for the Country of Origin on the Label.
This will ensure you’re buying the correct oil and not some knockoff.
Essential oils can have such a positive impact on your health and wellness. I encourage you to explore all there is about them, and by applying the information above, I am confident you can find a brand you can trust.
There you have it. Be mindful of these tips the next time you’re out purchasing oils, and you’ll be sure to pick out the best quality oils and get more bang for your buck!
