When most people think of food, the conversation commonly goes towards calories, carbs or protein. What if a different conversation arose and you asked how does food nourish all of me; body, mind, and soul?
Practiced for thousands of years, food is a healer and way of life. Food goes beyond its physical properties to energetic characteristics that interact with our bio-field; more specifically, the energy centers within the body called chakras.
Chakras are vortexes of universal energy giving the gift of life. It is the energy behind our existence. With that said, chakras are the link between our energetic and physical beings AND the universal consciousness.
What does that mean? Each chakra vibrates at a particular frequency that impacts specific biological processes. For example, the heart chakra energy influences the health of the heart, lungs, cardiac nerve plexuses and thymus gland.
Each chakra also has a level of consciousness it reflects; with underlying universal life lessons. Our personal journey, all that we are meant to experience and learn in this lifetime is tucked into our biology! The chakras become a bridge between the soul and physical being, with our relationship with food a pathway to identify these life lessons and move towards becoming the best version of ourselves.
Let’s look at the HEART CHAKRA.
First, the heart is more than a physical organ, mechanically pumping blood to all our cells. The heart has an energetic and spiritual element to its existence.
Physical heart health is actually determined by the energy behind our physical being.
The heart is all about love.
Universal life lessons in love can be experienced through gratitude, acceptance, compassion, and forgiveness; of yourself and others.
These lessons around love manifest in heart and lung illnesses, making food choices that nourish the heart and strengthen the lungs at the forefront to foods for the heart chakra.
Let’s look at a few things you can begin doing in your relationship with food to impact the heart chakra.
Two food qualities that specifically vibrate with the heart chakra energies are green color foods, particularly cruciferous in nature, and the bitter flavor:
- Add cruciferous vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, rapini and bok choy into your weekly meals.
- Add bitter leafy greens such as arugula, watercress, collards, and lacinato kale to the mix. Eat them daily!
Consider cooked over raw. Roast, steam, sauté or use in a soup. Cooking makes nutrients more bioavailable and keeps digestion happy.
Our eating experiences are just as powerful as the foods we choose. As my understandings grow, I would say even more powerful.
- Consider cooking for yourself; an amazing gesture of self-love.
- Forgive yourself when you turn to food when your inner courage is lost.
- Choose to experience gratitude with every meal including the company you keep (yours included).
Our food is that connected to who we are. Our relationship with food is a reflection of who we are and how we are living. If we are willing to decode these messages, we can begin to understand so much about ourselves and choose in ways that best serve us.
What an amazing opportunity.
The question is, are you up for it?
