Natural, Homemade Recipes for some Common Summer Skin Care Issues
Ahhh… Summer! Who doesn’t love it? The family vacations, the long lazy days, the breezy, starlit nights, oh and wait…the bugs, the sunburn, and the kid’s heat rashes, right?
Well, don’t fret, get out there, frolic in the sun, and enjoy your summer to the fullest extent, because there’s a Natural, Healthy, and Homemade remedy for all of your summer skincare issues!
Let’s just start with a good ‘Rule of Thumb’ to consider when you think Skin Care:
IF YOU CAN’T PRONOUNCE IT, OR WOULDN’T EAT IT, THEN DON’T PUT IT ON YOUR SKIN!
Because what you put ON your body, goes IN your body; and it only takes about 26 secs to do so! That’s why it’s so important to choose healthy skin care products for yourself and your loved ones. Oh, and here’s a tip: manufacturers know that consumers are becoming more and more health and “label conscious,” So be sure to take a close look (with a side eye) at products that say, “Infused with… ex. Royal Gold Gogi Berry Oil” etc. (I totally made that up just now, lol). But, my point is that sneaky manufacturers will put some exotic sounding ingredient on the label to make you feel like this is some wonderfully healthy product. But in reality, the one drop of that “magical ingredient” is just a ploy to distract you from the chemical cocktail that the product really is! Okay, rant over. How about a little DIY instead? After all, what better way is there to know a product is healthy than to make it yourself?
How about we start with those pesky Mosquitos?
We all hate Mosquitos, and Mosquitos hate Lemongrass. That’s why it’s the PERFECT Essential Oil to use in all of your summer skincare products. To make your own All Natural (and moisturizing) Mosquito Repellent, grab your favorite Carrier Oil (think: Organic Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil etc.) pour it into a 4-8 oz bottle and add about 20 drops of Therapeutic Grade Lemongrass Essential Oil. Lemongrass will not only keep the mosquitos away, it also has an absolutely amazing scent that the whole family will enjoy wearing!
How About Sunscreen/Sunburn Prevention?
Planning to be outside all day? Better protect yourself from that blazing summer sun because ALL SKIN NEEDS SUNSCREEN! Be safe rather than sorry! For a natural sunscreen and/or soothing sunburn aftercare, combine about 1 cup of Raw Unrefined Shea Butter, ¼ cup of Aloe Vera Gel, and about 10 -15 drops of Carrot Seed Essential Oil (the Carrot Oil is optional but very effective. Carrot Seed Oil offers the highest Natural SPF Protection of all Essential Oils). Whip the Shea Butter and the Aloe Vera into a cream – once whipped, add your Carrot Seed Oil and apply this all over your body before and after sun exposure. Enjoy your new Natural Sun Protection!
And what about those irritating Summer Heat Rashes?
They just show up, especially on the kids, right! On the folds of the arm…on the sides and back of the neck…and Ugh, how itchy and irritating they can be! Well, Natural Relief is here! Try a Milk and/or Oat Bath! For a milk bath, add a cup of milk (and even a little honey if you’d like) to a tub of warm bath water and soak for about 20 mins. For an Oat Bath, grind some whole oats (ground whole oats become powder-like Colloidal Oats) and pour the oat powder into your warm bath water. Both of these skin soothing baths are packed full of nutrients that will relieve itch and inflammation while calming irritated skin!
