“Your belief system is your very own life control center.”
I wonder how much time you have spent thinking about your belief system. I wonder if you have asked yourself if it is truly your friend. Have you dared to contemplate the possibility of it being your foe? If you are on a personal quest to release the beauty that resides within you, evaluating your belief system is mandatory.
Because your belief system is your very own life control center. It is comprised of a series of thoughts and experiences that you have decided are true. You believe in them. And if you believe in anything, you have a belief system. But you already know you have one don’t you? It is literally impossible to live out life without one. However, if you are not careful, you can become closed minded and this leaves little to no room for personal growth and transformation.
If you look at your beliefs like the content of an epic novel you’ve been writing since the day you were born, you will find a web of short stories that have been woven together in your mind. Some of these stories you yourself have written. Others may have been composed by someone else and accepted by you as your truth. All of these stories are the code of the program that operates day and night in the background of your mind. They are directing the decisions and choices you make in daily life.
Sadly, for many adults, at some age you stopped writing your book and just started living the stories that were already written.
Fortunately, it’s never too late until it’s really too late. Within you there is an innate characteristic that can prevent beliefs from limiting you. In the depths of your sacred essence resides an intrinsic way to avoid rigidity. A masterfully ingenious way to keep your belief system pliable.
So how? How does one keep their mind flexible?
In psychology, the big five personality traits are openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. These traits are not limited to any culture but seem to be present in all of humanity.
So the answer in part lies in understanding that you were born with a beautiful open mind and a degree of agreeableness. You came into this place of existence ready to take on this big world with vigor and gusto. Nothing seemed wrong, everything felt new and possible. But as you got older you began to construct beliefs. You gave birth to opinions, impressions, and convictions via the interpretation of your life experiences and influences. And, like many others, with the development of belief, up rose the walls of resisting possibility.
What you choose to believe affects not only the evolution of your own life but also that of the entire planet. I am touched in some way, shape, or form, by your beliefs and vice versa. Narrow and rigid beliefs can lead to something as big as war. War is always the outcome of a closed mind. Or better said, multiple closed minds. Or what about the fact that 600 years ago humanity thought the world was flat? It was generally believed that you could sail to the edge of the ocean and fall off. How about the old understanding that the earth was the center of the universe and the sun and other planets revolved around it? What would have happened if these beliefs weren’t questioned? Where would we be if it weren’t for the open minds of the men who were scrutinized and often humiliated in front of their peers because they dared to question their beliefs? Imagine.
It is important to periodically ask yourself about your convictions, views, conclusions, or ideas. If you do not, you are preventing yourself from being the amazing person you have been designed to be. You are in essence locking up the intrinsic passion and ability that you possessed in your youth, and perhaps with it an amazing discovery that can change the course of all of humanity.
Do you see then my beloveds, why it is so important to take the time to evaluate your belief system? Ask yourself if it is a friend who is walking with you on a path of growth, or is it a foe, holding you back from being authentically you?
If you want to experience renewal and revival in your life, being open minded is a critical ingredient to success. Don’t stop writing. Your stories can and should be constantly evolving through the avenue of openness. When you are receptive to new ideas and concepts you are allowing yourself to expand, thereby affecting and transforming your life.
It is my hope that you take the time necessary to ponder the great mysteries of the many galaxies of possibility that abide in the universe of your beliefs.
