Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You

Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You by Mateja Petje #TheWellnessUniverse #WUVIP #Serves

As I am writing this, “On June 13th, there will be an extremely powerful and potent new supermoon in Gemini, bringing with it an energetic emotional storm that is set to stay for the next two months. The reason for this is that this supermoon is the first in a series of three new moon supermoons, with the second on July 13th—and the third, which will be the completion of this intense energy portal, taking place on August 11th, 2018.” (*)

So that you know, it’s called the supermoon because the moon is much closer to the Earth.

No wonder I have been feeling a bit off. Or is it also wedding jitters, as I am getting married this coming Friday? Being a highly sensitive person all my life, and suffering from chronic anxiety and depression, I can feel everything.

Can you relate?

The good news is that the supermoon is also a time for new beginnings, and time to discard what no longer serves us, such as commitments, habits, obligations, relationships, old beliefs and old ways of thinking, jobs, and even possessions that we have accumulated over the years.

As we are going through this process, we might experience any of the following: aches and pains, frequent anxiety, disrupted sleep, vivid dreams, fear of the future or something big to happen, obsessing and over-thinking, isolation, and the need for healing and releasing.

It’s a great time to do a life review and ask yourself some questions:

  • What people in my life have become toxic, or have I outgrown them? Does this particular relationship make me feel happy, or do I feel drained after spending time with this person?
  • Do I truly love my job, or have I known for a while that I am just going through the motions, and I am just scared to make a change? Is it time to take a chance and move on?
  • What household items and clothes have I not used in over 6 months?
  • What daily habits have become draining or unhealthy? How about creating new, healthy habits?
  • Pay attention to your thoughts. What is the content and what am I saying to myself on a daily basis? Are those beliefs and thoughts really helping me to feel joy, excitement, and empowerment? Or quite the opposite… do I feel disempowered, anxious, overwhelmed, and stuck?

These are just some of the suggestions to help you determine what no longer serves you.

It’s important to spend some time in solitude and reflect on your life. It could also be helpful if you are not sure, to start writing a journal, or get feedback from somebody that you trust. We are constantly changing and evolving; change is the only thing we can count on. Sometimes we don’t like it, and it can be very painful. Yet, the only way through it is to embrace it, and move from the darkness into the light again.

For me, personally, ever since I was a teenager, I have dreamt of a wedding. I got married the first time back home in Slovenia when I was 29 to my ex-husband, an American. I got married in an old castle, in the town of Bled. I never thought that only two years later I would end up divorced as I had found out that my ex-husband was an abusive alcoholic.

Now, almost 20 years later, my dreams have changed and this time, I am truly marrying my best friend. It was not easy and many times I felt very discouraged. Over the years of challenging relationships and dating the wrong people, I had almost lost hope.

I had to give up many of the things that didn’t serve me, including friends, jobs, and most of all, limiting beliefs.

When I finally learned that at the core of my unhappiness was the way I had perceived things, and especially about my past, my life started to change for the better. When I started taking responsibility for my past, present, and future, things started to shift.

In 2012 I left a corporate job to pursue my passion, and at the same time, I also moved in with my current fiancé, my husband-to-be. Together, we had to learn how to communicate, respect each other’s differences, and figure out how to deal with daily stress. I have always been a seeker and determined to find happiness, and I have no regrets.

My suffering has a purpose, and I learned how to let go of what no longer serves me, over and over again, and so can you.
