What do you want for your child(ren)?
Do you want them to
- Grow into a responsible, self-reliant, confident, kind, and loving person?
- Do well in school, have strong friendships, and have a great school experience?
- Achieve their goals, enjoy the journey, and their accomplishments?
- Look at their mistakes as learning opportunities, not times to blame another or berate themselves?
- See their circumstances and challenges as clouds, not walls?
- Feel connected to all people and the world, garnering strength and comfort from that connection?
- Grow whole and complete, celebrating their life as they are, and powerfully paving their way in the world with passion and purpose?
- Look back at their childhood and remember it as a happy, peaceful, loving time, and be able to create that for their children?
Does this describe success to you? If your child embodied all the above as a young adult, would you look back and say, “YES, I did my job well?” If these are measures of success for you, the good news is there is much you can do as a parent to secure your child’s well-being and success in life. And together, we can create a world we want to leave to our children.
As parents, we embark upon an incredibly special journey. We pave the way for the future as we shape the next generations to come.
Children come into the world loving, open, trusting, forgiving, and present to life. As parents, we get to experience these childlike qualities all over again and if we are attentive, we can rediscover them in their purest form in ourselves. They may get covered up over time by life’s hurts and pains, by our own parents who were not available for one reason or another or didn’t always know the best thing to say or do. Learning and growing are always options we have and it’s never too late to transform oneself and a relationship.
Parenting is a topic near and dear to my heart as it is this role in life that I enjoy, by far, the most. I feel the greatest joy, fulfillment, and sense of accomplishment in the wonderful relationship I have with my daughter. I constantly learn from her and our interactions as we live our lives, always connected, learning, and growing.
We have faced challenges like everyone. I have messed things up a million times and we’ve always come out stronger for it. We celebrate life and our successes, taking note of what we have learned from our mistakes. I have found great clarity, direction, and purpose in parenting and it carries forward in everything I do.
What is parenting?
Parenting is not about being perfect. I call it Parenting with Soul, accessing our heart’s intelligence, not to be perfect; instead to be our loving selves doing the very best we can. I believe there is great urgency in the world today for bringing parenting to this level, to a soulful place, where all is forgiven, as love becomes the driving force in our lives.
We live in a remarkably busy world, filled with busyness and busy people, oftentimes at the expense of deep connections with ourselves and others. We see our children growing up quickly, facing circumstances many are unprepared to face. The media blares its messages constantly telling them “You can be better if you have this or that product.” Work and life bring us demanding schedules and expectations, and we can easily get pulled from our center, from that which makes us happy, from our soul’s connection that is always there to guide us.
Over the next several months I will be sharing Parenting with Soul Seven Spiritual Lessons so that we can confidently and successfully raise our children to create the kind of world we all want to live in.
It’s never too late to Parent with Soul. And with a change of heart, everything is possible.
