Here is her expanded thought …

I often hear people younger than myself saying things like, “well, I\’m old now” or “I\’m too old to be doing something like that!” I am seriously perplexed by these statements as they suggest in some way that we should be mourning a more youthful time to the exclusion of all the “good” that each year we are living presents. So, it may be that you are no longer able to do some things you once did, or perhaps you\’ve gotten stuck on a nostalgic track of thinking which has blinded you to the endless possibilities that exist for your enjoyment. There is a difference between limiting physical activity for reasons of physical limitation versus limiting beliefs about age. For those complaining about getting old, let me tell you, that I have “spotted” for a 78-year-old woman while she slalom water skied on one leg AND my oldest boxing client was 69.

In a similar way, we have the opportunity to LOVE our exterior physical form, at ANY age even when it no longer fits into the standard of youthful attractiveness. I often hear self-deprecating comments that reflect a preoccupation with changes in one\’s physical form as a result of aging. I could also easily fall into the abyss of remembrance of fewer facial lines or more defined abdominal muscles. When comments are made, it snaps me into awareness and I remember how aging has helped me to know myself as so much more than my physical vessel. How time spent defining body parts or otherwise \’enhancing\’ my physical appearance would have been better spent working on the inner issues which lead me to feel I wasn\’t good enough just as I am.

Just being content within yourself is such a gift. Recently I was asked what my most favorite age was and after a short reflection, I realized that my most favorite age is the age I am RIGHT now. Why? Cuz, life is now and tomorrow is never promised.
