7 Chakras in 7 Days: Root Chakra “I Am”

The Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine. Its corresponding color is Red

This Chakra is the ‘root’ of your being and establishes a deep connection with your physical body, your environment and with the Earth.

Picture roots coming from the base of your spine and gently flowing into/or out of and through the earth. Visualize a Red ball of light glowing and spinning just below your tailbone… focus on that ball, now take a deep breath and visualize that ball of energy, feeling it’s warmth growing larger and expanding throughout that area

This Chakra is very important in maintaining feelings of safety, belonging and grounding.

Some manifestations of this Chakra being hindered or out of balance are:

  • Physical imbalance- Constipation, anemia, lower back pain, Sciatica, hemorrhoids, Arthritis, weight issues, chronic fatigue, clumsy, diarrhea, leg, hip and foot pain. Frequent colds or cold hands and cold feet.
  • Emotional imbalance– Spacey (confusion) feeling unsafe, depression, insecure, low self-esteem, untrusting, phobias, little interest in sex, sense of not belonging

Reasons this Chakra can be hindered or out of balance:

  • Birth trauma
  • Abandonment
  • Physical neglect
  • Poor physical bonding with mother
  • Malnourishment
  • Major illness or surgery
  • Physical abuse

This Chakra controls your Adrenal Gland. Adrenal glands secrete different hormones which act as ‘chemical messengers’ as they travel in the bloodstream and act on various body tissues to enable them

to function correctly. The adrenal glands, located at the top of each kidney, produce hormones that help the body control blood sugar, burn protein and fat, react to stressors like a major illness or injury, and regulate blood pressure. So not only does this Chakra control certain emotional and physical aspects but it also controls a very vital organ of the body that can trigger your Adrenal Gland to not function to its full potential.

When this chakra is in balance, you feel supported, connected to and safe in the physical world, and you feel grounded. As well as setting the stage for the rest of the Chakra’s to be in harmony.

Some ways that you can balance this Chakra are:

  • Meditation
  • Releasing any fears
  • Reiki
  • Working through any unresolved anger or bitterness from childhood abuse or neglect
  • Wearing the color red

It is important to balance the Root Chakra first and then work upwards through your Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Brow and Crown Chakras.

Daily practice of meditation on each Chakra will help in keeping the good energy flowing and will help balance your life in both the physical and emotional aspects.
