You’ve seen the headlines splashed across every newspaper, media broadcast, and social media platform. Hollywood is coming unglued with a tsunami of allegations of sexual misconduct.
This current wave, however, has been a very long time in the making. Everyone will have their own reaction to this, and reactions are sure to vary in intensity depending upon how personally this hits someone relative to their own understanding and experience.
For a Tantrika, there is nothing quite as encouraging as seeing some element of the collective unconscious become conscious. Or at least, more so than it has been for many centuries. Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, etc., have directed our attention to the tip of a vast, deep iceberg of global culture. That if and when thawed, might tilt the entire world on its axis.
I’m someone who has been keenly interested in physicality and sexual energy since I was quite young.
I guess that’s what inspires someone to become a tantric healer, as opposed to a nurse or an accountant. I wanted to know what life-force energy is all about, and what’s running the show here, on this third rock from the sun. I wanted to know how this mysterious, powerful, primal energy affects everything about the way we live, and how it affects our health, capacity for love, happiness, and high-level wellness. And I wanted to know how it affects the fulfillment of our most sublime human potentials.
In some places, sexuality is never spoken about.
Others may have taken a more emboldened approach, and while that may have been freeing from a certain level of restrictiveness, in most cases this so-called freedom did not necessarily lead to sustained states of bliss and ever-increasing good health and emotional wellness. As you might imagine this particular interest has gotten me into heaps of trouble at various stages in my life. I’ve learned quite a lot both as a result of my own adventures and misadventures, but also via an immersion in the Buddha-field of the tantric master, Osho.
But this particular writing isn’t about me. It’s about what’s gone awry in the world relative to our primal energy, and what we can do about it now. The call for sexual healing in our world couldn’t possibly be more evident and compelling than it is now. The beast has awoken! Are you wondering, “Isn’t what’s happening in Hollywood a clear-cut, open, and closed case? Why should this be so important to all of us?” The answers here are complicated. They lie in understanding that everything is energy, circulating, creating, and re-creating life in all of its forms.
The foundation of our life force is sexual energy.
Sexual energy is the means by which all of us came to be here. Our bodies are made from the same energy as the earth and the stars. They are re-configuring every moment of every day, and we are connected in subtle ways to everything that has ever been and everyone that has ever lived. As consciousness evolves we become ever more aware of how to manage and direct this energy towards the outcomes we’d prefer. In other words, we become conscious creators. Or, more accurately, co-creators with the rest of existence.
Someday, after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides, and gravity, we will harness the energies of love. And then, for the second time in the history of the world mankind will have discovered fire. — Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
The ancient Tantric’s lived in a matriarchal, nature-based culture within which it was the role of the male to “Blossom his woman open.” In order to fulfill this role, he began learning energy mastery at puberty. A woman who was fully opened in this way was revered as the inspiration of the relationship, the family, the community, and the world. Their intimacy was dedicated to the realization of Unity Consciousness.
When Two Become One, the Whole Becomes Holy.
When an event such as this current Hollywood crisis provokes people, we are forced to reexamine something we’ve been tolerating for far too long.
How is this affecting all of us, individually and collectively? What relationship might this have to the proliferation of sexually related diseases and breast, uterine, cervical, and prostate cancers, etc.? How has this impacted our emotional well-being?
One of the tenets that has always inspired me to stay on the difficult path of self-inquiry around heavily charged issues is:
What you can feel you can heal. – John Gray Ph.D.
Love is the most powerful force in existence.
Let us learn to harness it for our own good, and ultimately for the good of the entire world.
