The Pitchfork In The Road

The Pitchfork In The Road

How Tiny Choices Can Help Us Around Those Big Obstacles

Sometimes life presents us with what appears to be insurmountable obstacles. Instead of a fork in the road, there’s a pitchfork blocking our way. Maybe you’ve noticed that life is like that.

During those times, we may be so consumed with what we face that we find it difficult to step back and see this in the context of the ebb and flow of our life. A big branch on our tree of life has encountered a wall and now must find a new direction to grow.

Moving from where we are to a better place can take time, patience and frequently test us with more obstacles. The better place we seek may also be hidden from us for a while. If you are waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel, you might be waiting forever.

Often, you can move forward by making tiny choices that alter reality and history. You may have to do undesirable things. You may have to let time pass. You may have to do a lot of small things before you make something big happen.

Tiny choices can be the key that unlocks a path to a better place. Instead of looking for the big change, the big decision, the big answer, start looking at tiny choices you can actually make that shift things in minor ways. These choices may appear to have nothing to do with the pitchfork in front of you.

Yet, when you make these tiny choices and take these little actions, it changes everything. You will begin to look at your current situation differently. You will begin to see windows and doors that did not exist before. Every choice you make no matter how small causes ripples in your life you often can’t detect until much later.

Change isn’t just about those big, monumental decisions you have to make every once in a while. Change is just as much about making a long series of tiny everyday choices that over time lead us down a different path. The big decision that helps you find the light at the end of the tunnel may not be visible until you’ve made hundreds of tiny choices first.

The path to a better place already exist and is waiting for you. Never lose hope that it is there. It may take a lot of time, effort and unpleasantness before you see any major changes. You can make this happen through many small choices that allow to you become the force of change in your own life.

If you change one tiny unimportant thing a day, in six months you have made 180 tiny changes that can add up to something big. You may have no idea what that will be or how it will look. But 180 days from now, you will see your world differently than you see it today and you will also become aware of choices and options you might not have seen before.

When you see a pitchfork in the road, sometimes you just leave it stuck there and start a new path where none existed before. Just like a branch grows in a new direction when it encounters an obstacle, you may also need to alter your direction instead of trying to pull a pitchfork out of the road. Always keep your mind open to all possibilities and have faith that every choice you make does make a difference even if you can’t see it yet.
