Since the beginning of time, sound has held an integral place in our societies. From indigenous cultures praying and chanting around the fire to the Gregorian Chants sung by monks, to mothers around the world singing lullabies to their newborn babies, sound has always had a magical way of soothing our soul.
It really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Our bodies are comprised of more than 70 percent water, and water is easily influenced by vibration. Sound in essence is a vibration, which can have a positive or negative effect on our body, mind, and soul.
The water experiment
Internationally renowned Japanese scientist, Dr. Masaru Emoto, discovered that molecules of water are affected by our words, thoughts, and feelings. His book The Hidden Messages in Water goes into deeper details and provides a plethora of photos showing the incredible transformation of water molecules. He also exposed water to the music of the world and documented how water captured the rhythms and melodies and transformed its molecular structure into crystals. Quite incredible!
Think of a time when you heard stressful sounds, like jackhammering, car honking, or sirens. How did you feel afterward? Stressed, agitated, or angry, perhaps? Now think of a time when you heard peaceful sounds, like birds chirping in nature or waves lapping gently on the shore. How did you feel after that? Quite a difference to be sure.
The London experiment
In 2007, Transport for London launched a program to start playing classical music in certain zones on the Tube (the capital city’s underground train). The goal was to discourage antisocial behavior, which seems to have worked. Within 18 months, the clever idea reduced robberies by 33 percent, assaults on staff by 25 percent, and vandalism by 37 percent. Due to its initial success, the initiative has since expanded to include 65 of the city’s 270 stations.
Most of us don’t give too much thought to what we listen to or the sounds around us. When in actuality, sound is such a powerful tool that we can tune into (pun intended) to elevate ourselves.
Monks and singing bowls
Monks in Asia have been playing metal singing bowls for quite a long time. Much more recently, crystal singing bowls were created, which combines the concept of the singing bowl with pure quartz crystal. Singing bowls can help reset the nervous system, shift the brain into receptive states for healing, and bring the body’s chakras (or energy centers) into balance.
In my private practice, I usually integrate sound therapy in my one-on-one sessions as I’ve witnessed firsthand the rapid transformations that are possible. When I expanded my business into a comprehensive healing sanctuary, we incorporated sound therapy into all the services we offer.
Sound as healing medicine
So, the next time you’re feeling down and out, play some healing music to create a shift in your mood. Or anytime you want to elevate your body, mind, and soul, listen to some high vibe frequencies.
Thanks to modern technology, it’s now easier more than ever before to integrate sound healing into your daily life. There are plenty of free music tracks available online (just Google “healing frequencies”), or you can attend a sound bath in your area. If you’re attending SoulTreat 2021, you can join me for multiple immersive sound experiences!
