A salt bath is a wonderful way to relieve stress, release negative and excess energy, and replenish the body with vital minerals and nutrients – all at the same time.

Taking a bath in salt water makes my body tingle head to toe and I can literally feel the negative energy draining out of me. It is pure bliss. Just imagine meditative music, incense, candlelight, and tingling energy flowing through your body. With every breath you take, you feel lighter and lighter until you’re seemingly floating. I get dreamy just thinking about it.

But, what if you don’t have a bathtub, don’t like taking baths, or have a bathtub that is terribly uncomfortable?

Well, have you tried a salt foot bath?

A salt foot bath has the same effects as a salt bath in the tub. Energy will drain out of you, which will give you some much-needed stress relief and as a bonus, it will replenish your body with vital minerals and nutrients. I try to take a foot bath at least once every two weeks. In this case, it is not my whole body which is tingling, but my calves and feet. The bliss is just the same. I absolutely love salt foot baths!

Which salt should you use?

Different sources will give you different advice. Technically, almost any salt would work. However, I do not recommend table salt, since it has no nutrients at all. You should at least use sea salt. Epsom salt is also a common suggestion. Some people like to mix Epsom with other salts, which of course, is also fine.

I personally prefer Himalayan pink salt. The reason is that it is full of nutrients and minerals much more than most other salts. All these minerals and nutrients will be absorbed by your body while you bathe or take a foot bath. This is a really good thing because we generally are deficient in at least some of these nutrients and a salt bath with Himalayan Pink salt not only removes negative and excess energy it also replenishes these deficiencies. Whatever your body does not need, it will simply discard, which means you don’t have to worry about overdoing it if you use Himalayan Pink salt for cooking and for a salt bath (like I do).

So, you see, choosing the perfect salt can help you in more ways than one.

Therefore, I encourage you to do your research on the different salts that are available and choose the one that is right for you. Don’t just go by what other people recommend. Let your intuition guide you.

If you want to take a salt bath you should use 2-4 cups of salt. This sounds like a lot, but think about how much salt is in the ocean, and how much water you put in the tub. At first, you may want to try using 2 cups and gradually increase the amount. If you have a preferred essential oil you can add a few drops to the water as well.

Some people add rose quartz, quartz, and black tourmaline to their bath. Before you add any crystals though, make sure that they do not get corroded from the salt or the water. Different crystals have different densities. The Selenite, for example, belongs to the sandstone family and will gradually dissolve in water. Both clear and rose quartz, on the other hand, are almost as hard as diamonds and are perfectly safe in your salt bath. The crystals should be placed as close to your body as possible since they have to be within your auric field to be most effective.

After your salt bath, you should rinse yourself off to remove any salt from your body.

If you have gone swimming in the ocean, you know it starts to sting and itch if you don’t shower afterward. The same is true for a salt bath.

If you prefer taking a salt foot bath, I would recommend about one-half to one cup of salt. For either method, I would recommend a duration of between 15 and 30 minutes.

If you are in a rush, but would still like to benefit from the cleansing properties of salt, I would recommend a salt soap bar or a salt peeling.

You can use these methods in the shower every day. However, I would not recommend using the soap bar directly on your body. Instead, you should use a washcloth since the salt can be pretty rough on your skin.
