Visualization Technique: Releasing Old Beliefs –

This article explains a simple method of releasing old beliefs.

It is based on a revision technique taught by Neville Goddard. Have you ever heard of Neville Goddard? Yes, no? Neville Goddard was born in 1905 in Barbados and died in 1972. He was a spiritual educator who originally came to the United States when he was 17 years old to study drama. While touring England with his dance group, a Scotsman gave him books on metaphysics and these changed the trajectory of his life. Many consider him to be one of the world’s greatest mystics. Some of the books he wrote are: At Your Command, Awakened Imagination & The Search, Feeling Is The Secret, Freedom For All, The Law and The Promise, Out of This World, The Power of Awareness, Prayer The Art of Believing, Seedtime and Harvest, Your Faith Is Your Fortune.

Here is what he has to say about imagination:

Said Neville, “I ask you to take me seriously. Imagination will fulfill itself, so do not limit yourself by anything that is now happening, no matter what it is. Knowing what you want, conceive a scene which would imply you have it. Persuade yourself of its truth and walk blindly on in that assumption. Believe it is real. Believe it is true and it will come to pass. Imagination will not fail you if you dare to assume and persist in your assumption, for imagination will fulfill itself in what your life becomes.” (1)

Could it be this simple?

In the book Mastering Your Inner World, Neville Goddard Explained: Mastering with Ease, the author Rita Faith talks about how changing your mental states can help you change your circumstances. Neville Goddard loved to give lectures. In one of his lectures, Rita Faith says, “He explains his technique of revision, which is to mentally change anything that has happened that you don’t like and making it conform to how you wished it had happened. By changing the memory of the event, you alter the past and that, therefore, alters your present and future experiences.” (2)

“Neville likened revision to forgiveness and stressed that this was true forgiveness as you are changing your memory to such an extent that you are forgetting anything and anyone that displeased you, and changing it to how you would like things to be thereby erasing from your memory negative events and circumstances and replacing the memory impression to conform to your ideal. This is what breaks the negative cycle of events and circumstances in your life.” (2)

How can you apply this technique to your present situation? 

Rita cites as an example that she had difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. To change this situation, all she did was imagine before she went to sleep that she would awaken full of energy and refreshed. Within a week of doing this, it changed her reality. However, you don’t have to wait until bedtime. You can review your day and mentally change anything whenever you want as the day unfolds. Simply make sure that it is in alignment with your highest good. Have you grasped the power of this technique?

Think of how you can apply this to just about anything that you wish to change! Suppose you had an argument with your best friend. You can imagine and relive the conversation the way you wanted it to be. You can start right now and practice it. It does not cost anything, and you don’t have to go anywhere. Rita Faith says that persistence and consistency is the key to applying this revision technique.

Neville says, “You will never again accept the facts of life, but live in your imagination and put everything in subjection to it. This is when you become a true master of your inner world; seeming miracles will begin to appear.” (3)

Don’t dwell on how the end results manifest.

Give this task to a Higher Power within you. Imagine what you want to be, frequently during the day. The more you practice, the easier it becomes. Imagine the scenario as though it is real and as if you’ve become what you long for. Experience it with all your senses. Keep on practicing and carrying on until you’ve accomplished what you yearn for.

Do you doubt it will work? Wonderful! Do it anyway. What have you got to lose?

The beauty of this technique is that as you release old beliefs, negativity is replaced with a memory of your own choosing, in alliance with your highest ideal.
