Welcome to Jim Phillips’ Wednesday Wisdom for May 15th! Each Wednesday, WU World Changer Jim Phillips has shared some mid-week wisdom for you to ponder and embrace. Please join us for his final installment of this series.
“You are where you are, doing what you are doing, being what and who you are being, experiencing what you are experiencing because of your thoughts, beliefs, choices, and actions, to this moment and nothing else.”
That’s really it. Every experience stems from our thoughts, beliefs, choices, and actions that precede each experience.
As Goethe states below, “we are the decisive element” in how our lives unfold. That’s a scary thought for most of us. It means we are responsible for our own life, and how it unfolds.
It means we can choose who we are will be and how we will experience life moving forward. It makes us the creator and the creation within our life’s journey. It makes us the author and main character of the story we are writing. We are given guidance along the way, however, in the end, we are the ultimate authority through the gift of free will.
If life is not unfolding as you say you want it to unfold, look to your thoughts, beliefs, choices, and actions.
Are they aligned to the life you want to live? Are they aligned to the experience of you, you want to have? Do they empower you to experience who and what you truly are?
I love what Goethe has to say. I would only add, “If we treat our Self as we ought to be, we help our Self become what we are capable of becoming.”
“I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humour, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Thank you for joining me for this final installment of my Wednesday Wisdom series. Stay tuned for my future articles.
