The Wellness Universe (WU): Hello Janette, please tell us about yourself and what inspired you to write your chapter in the book The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools For Life.

Janette Stuart (JS): I was in a challenging and frustrating situation at work, where my boss had promoted someone unfit for the role, and I had to deal with the fallout. As head of HR, I witnessed firsthand how this poor decision negatively impacted not only the workplace but also my own mental and emotional well-being. My boss refused to listen to my concerns, leaving me feeling isolated, frustrated, and overwhelmed. Day after day, I struggled to cope with the negative energy, wondering how I would get through each workday.

Then, I reached out to my life coach, who introduced me to a powerful tool called The Rampage of Appreciation. At first, I couldn’t imagine appreciating the person who had caused so much turmoil. However, as I began to engage in the exercise, writing longhand—a form of release that brings me peace—I experienced a shift in my emotions. The Rampage of Appreciation helped me refocus on the positive aspects of this person. This practice empowered me to transform a difficult situation into an opportunity for growth and alignment, leading to a renewed sense of well-being.

I believe my experience can empower anyone dealing with difficult coworkers or strained personal relationships, and Im passionate about sharing this transformative tool. JS: My powerful tool is The Rampage of Appreciation exercise, designed to amplify positive experiences or effortlessly shift your focus from a negative perspective to a positive one. By harnessing the transformative energy of appreciation, you can reframe your thoughts about any person, place, or situation, creating profound results with minimal effort. This simple yet effective practice empowers you to cultivate a mindset of gratitude, turning even the smallest moments into opportunities for joy and growth.

WU: How did The Rampage of Appreciation specifically help you shift your perspective and improve your work situation?

JS: The Rampage of Appreciation helped me shift my perspective by allowing me to reframe my thoughts about a difficult coworker and the tense situation at work. Initially, I was overwhelmed with frustration, but through this practice, I began focusing on what I could genuinely appreciate about the person. After doing the Rampage, I set it aside and didn’t think much of it. To my surprise, without any additional effort, a transformation occurred. I suddenly viewed this coworker as just another colleague. He didn’t change—I did, by shifting my perspective through the powerful energy of appreciation. The heavy burden and frustration I had been carrying dissolved effortlessly, as if by magic.
