Meet Sherry Wuu, Chopra Scholar, Total Well-Being Coach, author, and wellness educator. In the soon-to-be-released book The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools for Navigating Loss, Grief and Transition, Sherry shares her journey through one of the most difficult periods of her life and the practices that helped her move from grief and helplessness toward presence, healing, and self-discovery.
The Wellness Universe (WU): Hello Sherry, please tell us about yourself and what inspired you to write your chapter in the book The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools For Navigating Loss, Grief and Transition.
Sherry Wuu (SW): For most of my life, movement has been my teacher.
My journey began in Taiwan, where I trained in Chinese Opera as a young girl and later discovered ballroom and Latin dance. Dance became the language through which I expressed myself, challenged myself, and learned about life. After moving to the United States, I continued performing and competing with professional dance partners before eventually opening my own ballroom dance studio in Silicon Valley. Looking back, movement has been my teacher for as long as I can remember.
Over the years, I was introduced to yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, breathwork, and other wellness practices. What began as personal exploration gradually became a path of transformation. Today, I share these practices as a Chopra Scholar, Total Well-Being Coach, yoga teacher, meditation teacher, and wellness educator.
I was inspired to write this chapter because of my experience as a mother. Like many parents, I wanted to protect my children from pain and help them find happiness. When my daughter and I experienced a period of deep disconnection, I found myself facing grief, fear, and helplessness. I realized that love alone could not fix everything.
This chapter is not only about the challenges we faced. It is about the inner journey that followed. Through breath, movement, meditation, reflection, and learning to stay present, I discovered a different kind of strength. The experience taught me that healing often begins when we stop trying to control life and start listening more deeply to ourselves and those we love.
Today, my daughter and I share a beautiful relationship built on greater understanding, compassion, and trust, and I am grateful for everything that journey taught us.
WU: What tool do you share in this book, and what can we expect to experience as a result of using this tool?
SW: The tools I share are simple, accessible, and gentle. They include conscious breathing, mindful movement, meditation, and reflective journaling.
One of the breathing practices I use is Ujjayi Breath, which helps calm the nervous system and create a sense of steadiness during stressful moments. I also share a gentle movement practice adapted from Sun Salutations that encourages us to reconnect with the body when emotions feel overwhelming.
Meditation, particularly the So Hum practice, helped me develop greater awareness and presence. Journaling became a safe space where I could process emotions honestly and observe my inner growth over time.
These tools did not remove life’s challenges, but they changed the way I responded to them. Instead of feeling trapped by fear, uncertainty, or emotional overwhelm, I learned how to create space, listen inwardly, and respond with greater clarity and compassion.
WU: When your chapter says “When Love Isn’t Enough,” what does that phrase mean to you today?
SW: For many years, I believed that if I loved enough, cared enough, worried enough, or tried hard enough, I could protect the people I loved from pain.
Life taught me otherwise.
Love cannot make choices for another person. Love cannot control outcomes. Love cannot remove every challenge from someone’s path.
What love can do is remain present.
Love can listen without judgment. Love can create space for growth. Love can trust that each person has their own journey and their own lessons to learn.
Today, “When Love Isn’t Enough” is no longer a statement of sadness for me. It is a reminder that love does not need to control in order to be powerful. Sometimes the greatest expression of love is presence, patience, and trust.

Beautiful blog interview, Sherry. It was great to have a sneak peek into your chapter. I love your realizations that love does not have to meet every need for the other person or control. Your breathing tools will benefit many as well. I can’t wait to read your chapter.
