Are you familiar with the Mother Goose poem that speaks of each day of the week and the child’s destiny described? It is listed below and begins, “Monday’s child is fair of face.” For many years, I believed this to be true about myself and my husband’s day of birth. Talk about limiting beliefs! Goodness. That little line made me believe that since both of us are born on Saturday, we both needed to work hard to make our living and to acquire things; like everything we would work for needed to be hard or difficult to receive, doubly hard since both of us are Saturday’s child. Like it was our destiny and there were no other options.
I am not here to bash nursery rhymes, Mother Goose, or childhood stories at all. We are here to contemplate limiting beliefs that may be hindering us from living the life we so desire.
Here is the poem mentioned above that I had allowed to hold such power over me:
Monday\’s child is fair of face,
Tuesday\’s child is full of grace;
Wednesday\’s child is full of woe,
Thursday\’s child has far to go;
Friday\’s child is loving and giving,
Saturday\’s child works hard for its living;
But the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

Gradually, I learned through various teachings such as “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne and “Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life” by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, we often are told something as a young child and carry it with us as if it were our truth and the only truth possible for us as we grow. We often pass these limiting beliefs on to others including the next generation. The good news is, that it is possible to change our limiting beliefs into empowering beliefs through self-growth and contemplation. Our thoughts are powerful and create our reality. The above two books are empowering for self-growth and you may want to give them a try.
Today, I invite you to look inward and see if you may be carrying someone else’s ideas about money, relationships, food, possibilities, health, the thoughts you believe about yourself, career choices or any number of scenarios. Are the beliefs you carry about these things truly what you know to be true, or are you carrying another’s limiting beliefs along with you?
The past few years have been ones of peeling back my limiting beliefs. I gradually replaced my thoughts of lack (and having to work hard for our living) to those of abundance, prosperity, goodness, ease and grace. It is possible for you too dear one. The truth is you are more capable, amazing and abundant than you realize. If removing my limiting beliefs could benefit me so greatly, it can work for you too.
I am so grateful that with the change of removing the limiting beliefs about lack and having to work hard for a living, that I was able to retire early, securely and comfortably and am grateful to be doing my soul’s work with my labor of love, Angel Angles.
