You are what you eat. When I ate donuts, I felt like a doughnut. At the time I didn’t understand the relationship between what I ate, how I felt, and my inner wisdom. Then I cleaned up my diet.
I began eliminating processed sugar and processed flour products such as baked goods, chips, and crackers. I started to eat a whole foods regime of mostly organic fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, eggs, fish, and a little meat. As my diet changed, my preferences started to change.
I began to notice, when I ate whole foods full of life force energy, I felt energized. Have you noticed that difference too?
Cleaning up my Diet wasn’t a Piece of Cake
I am a recovering chocoholic. My Grandpa weaned me on ice cream in the highchair. I grew up with the belief: sugar equals love. When I felt sad, I got a sugary treat to feel better. When I celebrated, I chose ice cream, cake, cookies, and chocolate. An enormous dish of M&M’s on the coffee table and a stash of chocolate in my underwear drawer ensured I never ran out. I was never an extremist, just a habitual user.
Sugar deceived me. I thought sugar satisfied a deep hunger. Now I know the deep hunger gnawing at me was to connect with my inner spiritual core. Sugar and chocolate kept me in a mental, emotional, and physical fog — and kept me from knowing my higher self for years.
My Body Emotions, Mind, and Spirit Rebalanced
I discovered that whole foods have more life force energy because they’re closer to nature. When I ate a box of processed cookies or crackers, I still felt hungry. Whole foods provide the nutrients our bodies need to feel satisfied.
As I made healthier food choices, I physically craved less sugar. Emotionally, I no longer felt deprived when I didn’t eat sugar. Instead, sugary treats no longer felt satisfying. When I cleaned up my physical body, I let go of fuzzy headedness, irritability, bloating, nasty itching in tender places, and other gruesome unmentionables.
The healthier I ate, the stronger my intuition became. I could hear my inner wisdom more clearly.
Today, I am joyfully free of cravings for chocolate, ice cream, baked goods, chips, crackers, and bread. Occasionally, I enjoy chocolate or a small dessert without feeling compelled to eat more.
I have more energy, more mental clarity, more physical flexibility, more endurance, more patience, more balance, and a feeling of centeredness and groundedness. I pay attention to how I feel and observe my body wisdom to determine what foods add or detract from my wellbeing.
I’m telling you my story for encouragement. If I can overcome sugar addiction, you can too.
Not only has my physical system become balanced, but the greatest benefit has been an expansion in consciousness. I have noticed a relationship between what I eat and my ability to maintain a consistent energy flow. I have made a personal commitment to give my body foods that nourish and fuel my connection to my inner wisdom and my spiritual well-being.
Have you Noticed Energy Surges in Your Body?
As I eat foods with greater life force, my capacity to flow with energy surges increases. The ebb and flow of my energy relates to how well I am nourishing my body and what foods I consume.
I invite you to try a three-week body clean up this spring. Notice all changes.
Try going three days without sugar, baked goods, and processed food. Try eating whole foods close to nature. Choose things that grow in the ground or that eat things that grow in the ground: fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, seeds, nuts, whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, millet, barley, wild rice), organic meat.
Try eating primarily whole foods for three weeks. Pay attention to how you feel at the end of three weeks.
As you Nourish, Balance, and Cleanse your Body Consider these Ideas
Listen to your body. Be aware of your body’s reactions when you feed it dead, processed foods high in chemicals, additives, sugar, fat, or salt. Notice if you feel tired, hungry, and unsatisfied. Notice how your body’s energy level flows when you eat fresh, organic produce.
Life creates life. Our bodies are continually renewing themselves. As the old cells die off, the body produces new cells. Every five days you get a new stomach lining, every three months a new skeleton, and in less than a year, new cells have replaced 98% of your body. What we eat influences how the body metabolizes food and cell regeneration. Eating foods high in life force energy brings in stronger new cells and helps evolve the body up the spiral of health.
Find spiritual quality in food. Studies by Candace Pert, a Georgetown University professor and pharmacologist, and Doctor Herbert Benson, author of The Wellness Book, found that one’s attitude while eating plays a part in the digestive process. The neuropeptides in the brain communicate thoughts and attitudes to the neuropeptides in the digestive tract. An attitude of gratitude triggers a miniaturized relaxation response through the release of endorphins to better digest and assimilate nutrients. Try eating with an attitude of gratitude. Have reverence for the life force turning into fuel and regenerating cells in your body.
“The body,” Pert concludes, “is the unconscious mind!”
Concentrated life force. We are surrounded by fast convenient foods that are broken apart and refortified. Finding foods with enough life force can be challenging. Even organic, fresh produce doesn’t have all the nutritional value it had 50 to 100 years ago. Notice the green seeds inside a tomato. It was picked while still green, gassed to turn red and didn’t stay on the vine long enough for the nutrients to pass from the soil to the fruit. Adding concentrated, whole food supplements to your diet can offer a convenient way to strengthen a healthy diet.
Start where you are. You don’t need to change your lifestyle and eating habits overnight. My shift to a clean body has been a gradual process spiraling upward. As I nourished, balanced, and cleansed my body, the cravings for processed foods evaporated. Foods that used to satisfy my cravings taste lifeless and unsatisfying. Now when I get the munchies and start roaming the cupboards, I know my body is craving life force.
As we balance our physical bodies, we strengthen our body-mind-spirit connection, and support our spiritual development.
Mindful eating and nourishing your body with whole, life-giving foods, supports your physical health and deepens your connection to your inner wisdom and spiritual essence. As you take steps to cleanse and balance your body, pay attention to the subtle shifts in your energy and vitality. Remember, you don’t have to make drastic changes overnight; start where you are and gradually introduce healthier choices into your diet. By nourishing your body, you’re nurturing your spirit and fostering a harmonious body-mind-spirit connection that can lead to greater well-being and spiritual growth.
