Life Mastery Soul Memos Episode 3, A Source of Inspiration
We all have people in our lives who serve as role models for us. They have qualities and attributes that we admire and that we want to emulate or manifest in our lives. If you ask people what it is they see in others that touches them or moves them, you’ll probably find these characteristics appearing near the top of their lists:
We always know when we meet a person of integrity because we feel almost immediately that we can trust that person. In other words, we know that this person will invariably be true to his or her word, and this creates a sense of reliability, which helps us to feel safe and secure.
Authentic people tend to show up in an honest, open, transparent manner in virtually all situations, so we never have any doubt about who they really are. This tends to make it easier for us to be around them.
People who really know the truth of who they are and why they are here always seem to inspire us because they never seem to be afraid to do what their hearts call them to do. They seem to be able to find the courage to transcend their fears no matter what they are faced with.
There are plenty of other qualities that could be listed here, things like truthfulness, compassion, humor, sensitivity, and so on. But most of these qualities seem to be variations or extensions of the things I put in my primary list.
Here’s something you may not have considered: if you can spot these characteristics in another person, it is only because they already exist within yourself! A lot of people seem to resist this idea, mainly because we are taught from a young age to avoid “tooting our own horn” or else risk being seen as self-centered or egotistical braggarts.
Sadly, we tend to downplay our own wonderful virtues. We even pretend that we don’t have them at all, and then, when we see those virtues showing up in someone else, we have a quiet and secret longing to express those qualities ourselves! It’s kind of ironic, isn’t it?
So, here’s a suggestion for you. While it is perfectly fine to enjoy recognizing someone else as an inspiration, perhaps the time has come for you to recognize that the one you are looking for is already here. In your life. Right now! All you have to do is recognize and acknowledge this person every time you look in the mirror!
The truth is, you are already a source of inspiration for others, even though you may not be fully aware of it. So, my invitation for this month is to look to yourself as a source of inspiration, and be grateful that you found yourself!
