Reiki is a completely non-invasive, biofield energy healing practice that has been well-studied, and is considered to be both safe and effective as an adjunct to Western medicine.
Reiki treatments affect positive changes in the body’s subtle energy field that help improve our health and wellbeing. And, the effects are cumulative!
I first experienced Reiki when I was in serious pain from endometriosis. The practice took me through a total abdominal hysterectomy and helped me heal faster. Like Pilates, I found Reiki to be so effective for me that I learned to give treatments to myself and others and teach it to both clients and practitioners. It is primarily a self-treatment but also happens to work well on others.

Reiki works alone for mild to moderate pain and in conjunction with pain medications for moderate to severe pain. I started it for my own pain relief and would say that almost 75% of my clients also turned to it for pain relief. It works!
When I first started practicing Reiki on other people every client told me how well they slept the night after their treatment. When I cannot sleep, I do a quick treatment on myself in bed and that typically does the trick. A good night’s sleep improves your health and quality of life.
We live in a high-stress world and any practice that helps us reduce and mitigate the effects of stress is a good thing. Reiki helps us relax, think more clearly, and helps reduce cortisol levels.
Many people find it difficult to meditate, with their “monkey mind” always asking questions and getting in the way of focused meditation practice. Since self-reiki treatments are always done the same way, there is ample opportunity to focus, find the breath, and feel the energy. This attention is a meditation practice and can be done daily.
Between the meditation, attention to subtle changes, and feeling the effects of energy in a way that our Western minds can’t always understand, Reiki tends to push us a little further on the path of spiritual growth. A Reiki practice is non-denominational, so people tend to grow generally more spiritual, no matter what, if any, religion they identify with.
Reiki promotes a more even, smoother energy, with fewer highs and lows. This helps me when I am feeling scattered, tend to be very high energy, or am feeling exhausted.
