“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind, and spirit.” —B.K.S. Iyengar
Have you ever entered a room where a group of people are laughing hysterically about something that they are watching on TV?
You may not know what they are watching, but their laughter is contagious. You can’t help it, and without meaning to, you start to laugh. Laughter heals the body, mind, and spirit. Do you find this hard to believe? The website Pubmed.org has over one hundred articles on the effects of healing and laughter. Do some research, and you may be pleasantly surprised.
You may recall the story of the woman who found out that she had cancer. She rented tons of comedy movies and watched them all day, every day. Long story short, she is convinced that she healed herself through laughter because her cancer disappeared! Amazing!
Another way that people heal people is by forgiving themselves and others. We can all say that we have never met a person that did not make a mistake at some point in their lives. The effect of angry words or actions leaves an imprint that is often difficult to erase. Here is a simple method you can use to integrate forgiveness into your life. It is taken from the book The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy.
Quiet your mind, relax and let go. Think of God and his love for you, and then affirm:
“I fully and freely forgive [the name of the offender]. I release him (her) mentally and spiritually. I completely forgive everything connected with the matter in question. I am free, and he (she) is free. It is a marvelous feeling.
This is my day of general amnesty. I release anybody and everybody who has ever hurt me, and I wish for each and everybody health, happiness, peace, and all the blessings of life. I do this freely, joyously, and lovingly. Whenever I think of the person or persons who hurt me, I say, “I have released you, and all the blessings of life are yours.” I am free and they are free. It is wonderful!
Dr. Joseph Murphy says that once you’ve forgiven the person, it is unnecessary to repeat the prayer. If the person and circumstances that hurt you spring up in your mind, simply say to yourself, “Peace be unto you.”
Another way that people heal people is through the power of love.
“Love is a gift of one’s innermost soul to another so both can be whole.” — Buddha
People resonate with the healing words, “I love you.” The power of love lifts people up and makes them feel they can accomplish anything. There are numerous stories of people who should have died from incurable diseases but overcome insurmountable odds because of their love for another person. It works both ways.
To recap: laughter, forgiveness, and love are each powerful in their own ways and help people heal people, but when they are put all together, you’ve increased your chances of success a thousand-fold!
