Mental Health Awareness 5 Tools for Better Mental Health Mental Health Awareness Month was first observed in 1949 by the Mental Health America organization and has since grown into a national movement. Observed in May to raise awareness about the importance of mental health and to educate people about mental health issues, The Wellness Universe is supporting wellbeing with a panel of experts and self-care tools. The goal is to promote mental health and well-being, reduce stigma, and encourage people to seek help when needed.

Mental health awareness is a growing movement focussing on dealing with a problem, but did you know that your genes and family history only play a minimal part in increasing your risk of mental health disorders? 

Your nutrition and lifestyle habits play the biggest parts in creating imbalances, negatively impacting your resilience and creating an environment for your brain to become inflamed and work sub-optimally. 

There is psychology behind the art of eating and giving the body all it needs to extract, assimilate and utilize the nutrients from the food you eat. Eating under stress will prevent most of the pathways involved in the digestion process. Also, not taking any me-time and being over-stimulated can also damage your mental health in the long term with a detrimental impact on your overall health.
