Meet Elizabeth Kipp, Stress Management & Historical Trauma Specialist. In the soon-available book, The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools for Loss, Grief, and Transition, Elizabeth shares how grief can move through generations, how inherited burdens can be released, and how loss can become fertile ground for healing, growth, and transformation.

Elizabeth Kipp (EK): I am a Stress Management & Historical Trauma Specialist, Ancestral Clearing Practitioner, Certified Addiction Recovery Coach and Yoga Teacher, and award-winning international best-selling author. My work is rooted in a simple but powerful truth: healing is possible, and each of us has an innate capacity to move beyond suffering and reclaim our lives.
I was inspired to write Holy Compost: The Fermentation of Grief – Awakening the Evolutionary Heart because of my own experiences with grief and what I discovered through my healing journey.
As I explored my family’s history and my work as an Ancestral Clearing Practitioner, I began to recognize how much unspoken grief had been carried through generations. I also came to understand that grief is not limited to the loss of a loved one. We grieve relationships, dreams, health, identities, opportunities, and the many transitions life brings.
What inspired this chapter was the realization that grief is not something to be avoided or fixed. It is a natural part of being human and, when honored, can become a catalyst for transformation. I wanted to share my personal experiences and insights in a way that helps readers see grief differently, not as an obstacle on the path, but as part of the path itself.
WU: What tool do you share in this book, and what can we expect to experience as a result of using this tool?
EK: The tool I share in this chapter is the practice of consciously acknowledging and honoring grief. Rather than viewing grief as something to avoid, suppress, or overcome, I invite readers to approach it with curiosity, compassion, and a willingness to listen to what it may be revealing.
Many of us were never taught how to grieve. We learned to stay busy, push through difficult emotions, or carry our pain silently. This tool encourages readers to pause and recognize the losses, transitions, and unprocessed grief that may be influencing their lives, including grief that may have been carried through family generations.
As readers work with this practice, they may experience greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional freedom. They may begin to understand themselves and their experiences in a new way, release burdens they no longer need to carry, and discover that grief can become a catalyst for healing, growth, and a deeper connection to the wisdom of the heart.
WU: In your chapter, you describe grief as “holy compost.” What does that metaphor mean to you, and how can grief become fertile ground for growth, healing, and awakening the evolutionary heart?
EK: When I think of compost, I think of the natural process of transformation. In nature, nothing is wasted. Leaves fall, plants die, and what appears to be decay becomes rich soil that nourishes new life. Compost is created from what has come to the end of its usefulness, yet it becomes the foundation for future growth.
To me, grief works in much the same way. We often want to rush through grief, avoid it, or make it go away. Yet grief has its own wisdom and timing. When we allow ourselves to honor our losses rather than resist them, something begins to transform. The pain may not disappear but instead transforms, becoming integrated into our lives in a way that deepens our compassion, expands our understanding, and opens our hearts.
I chose the phrase Holy Compost because grief is sacred. It is evidence that we have loved, cared, hoped, and been fully engaged in life. Over time, grief can transform us. It can soften what has become rigid, help us release what no longer serves us, and create fertile ground for greater wisdom and connection.
For me, awakening the evolutionary heart means allowing grief to do its work. It means becoming willing to feel, heal, and grow rather than remain separate from our experience. When we stop treating grief as an enemy and begin honoring it as part of our human journey, it can become one of our greatest teachers and a powerful catalyst for transformation.
