If you’re like many people, you may like to live life by the seat of your pants and go wherever the winds may carry you. There’s nothing wrong spontaneity, but there’s also power in planning! Today I’d like to talk a little bit about setting goals that lead to accomplishing the things you want to have in your life without feeling trapped and confined.
In order to avoid setting goals that you can’t keep, or creating more chaos and hassle than you need, I use two really simple techniques that I think you’ll love as much as I do!
K.I.S.S.
This simple word reminds me to ‘keep it simple, smarty!’. Often times when we want to accomplish something or manifest something we end up over-thinking the whole thing and making it more complex than we will realistically follow through on. Using the K.I.S.S. reminder ensures that I always begin with what’s most fundamental while breaking up large projects into smaller tasks we can complete with what we know.
S.M.A.R.T.
I love this one! It stands for Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Right, and True – and it’s the perfect model to ensure that everything you set out to achieve is in order!
Simple – Again we are reminded that it’s better accomplish 10 small steps than one big one. As humans in this busy world we are easily distracted or overwhelmed. Taking things one bite at a time gives us many moments of accomplishment which keeps us motivated and on the path to success.
Measurable – One of the biggest mistakes we can make when setting goals is not being able to know when we’ve achieved them. Make sure that the goals you have are clear enough that you will absolutely know when they have been met.
Attainable – Are your goals possible for you right now? Many times we self-sabotage by setting goals that simply don’t work with the life we have at the moment. Many people set goals that are impossible given the time, money, or know-how they have at the moment. When we don’t have the essentials in place, we need to pan back and set smaller goals that lead up to the bigger goal being more attainable.
Right – Is your goal good for you and good for all? It’s always a good idea to check the intention, possible outcomes, and ecology of a goal to ensure that when it comes to pass it will be for the good of all.
True – Is this goal really for you, or are you doing it because you are letting the opinions and expectations of others rule your path? Before you get to work on any goal, make sure that it comes from the depth of your heart and that it is true for you and the blessed life you are here to live!
Here\’s to our success!
