Is there anything that you want to achieve? Is it something you desire? Something you need? How will you get it? Is it even possible? Can we attain the unattainable pentacle?
How we visualize our goals and approach them is parallel to achieving them. One of the very first and most effective way that I have seen this work is that I have come to understand that the way we think of achieving our goals is how we start. When I say the “way,” I mean drawing an actual map in your mind of how you will get from where you are starting to where you will end up. Our plan is to start at the beginning of any map and end successfully at our destination. Another very important way to achieve our goal or goals is to ask ourselves “what is it that brought us to the decision to go for it?”
Here are a few examples of some pretty broad “end game goals” below:
- I want to be rich!
- I want to be famous!
- I want to be a successful!
- I want to be greatly admired and loved!
STEPS TO TAKE ALONG OUR MAP TO SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENT
We can fall short of many goals we set for ourselves if we see the end before we plan the ascent!
Planning with a purpose and patience to achieving a goal is the key to achieving it.
- The Plan – Draw the map
List the steps, set small milestones to hit along the way, write it all down and make a promise to work on it one step at a time. Like my dear friend reminded me today of the saying, “How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time.”
- The Purpose- Every goal should start with your purpose for getting there
Is it a passion of yours? Will it bring you joy? Will it bring joy to the masses through you? Is the core of your goal a calling on your life? Is it derived from a talent that you were gifted with to share with the world? Will it bring you peace and security? Will it make the world a better place? Is it healthy for your mind, body, and soul?
- Patience – Do you have to the patience to allow the points above to unfold so that you can appreciate the path
Learning to appreciate and love the journey is the best way to achieving solid sustainable success. Meandering along the path you have drawn for yourself is key. Having the patience and time it takes to put in any goal is a measure of how likely you are to accomplish it. The time it takes will undoubtedly come with lessons along the way and from these lessons we build our experience, our knowledge base, and our foundation for success. Once this third step is done, you will look back and see it was all worth it. Those lofty “end game goals” will be solidly in your grasp. Do you ever look back after a long journey that you thought you would never see the end of and realize that you made it? Once you have made it, nothing is lofty, nothing is unattainable, and even what you thought was impossible will be yours.
A great lesson to learn in applying all of these steps in achieving anything is to understand that the list above that includes riches, fame, and glory aren’t really the achievements. These things are actually the benefits of your achievement and are very attainable. Again, the list of goals above are but byproducts of you achieving your greatest potential. It is your return on you investing in yourself and of being the very best you that you can be in any profession or mission you set your mind to. If you do your best by planning with purpose and patience, you can achieve your goal and make your vision a reality. Achieve your goals for righteous and good reasons and what may seem intangible and invisible will come to fruition naturally. Be the best you and watch all that is good overflow and multiply in your life.
