Blissfully Living Your Dream Life: Meditating At Your Busiest

Is your mind abuzz with thoughts? If your mind is streaming dialogue, then you must be exhausted and anxious from all that mental chatter. One solution? Meditation.

But wait. Having trouble finding the time to sit still? Here are some on-the-spot tricks for practicing mindfulness on your daily grind.

While Working (from the office, or even at home):

In the morning, right before you check emails and voice messages, sit at your desk and close your eyes for a few moments to let yourself arrive, like really arrive.

This kind of short, daily meditation helps to break the cycle of constantly leaning into the future with thoughts, like “Will I make my deadline?” or “What do my coworkers think of me?”

At the supermarket

Stuck at the slow check-out line yet again? Instead of irritably wondering why this always happens to you, become aware of your breathing, and notice your anxiety and self-judgment.

You will definitely notice that while this situation is happening, it is not happening to you. Realizing that situations like these are common and that it isn’t you that the situation stems from will reduce your anxiety.

Washing the dishes

This dull chore very quickly turns into a pleasant ritual once you connect to the sensory elements of the water, soap, and dishes.

A simple but powerful practice is giving thanks. Give thanks for your sense of touch, smell, sight, taste, and hearing to fill yourself with an appreciation for being able to do this chore.

Looking at one load or multiple loads of laundry to fold? This is an excellent time to allow the energy of love and gratitude to flow into your heart. As you pick up each item to fold, reflect on who the item belongs to. 

Take the time to really feel the fabric in your hands. Allow the energy of love to envelope the center of your chest where you heart chakra resides. 

Embrace this feeling of love as you continue folding the clothing items.

Continue this process of folding each laundry item until there are no more items remaining to fold.

By the time you have finished folding all of the laundry, your mind, body, spirit and most definitely your heart will be filled with abounding love and appreciation for all the blessings of having these beautiful people in your life.

This will put a beautiful new energy and light into the chore of folding clothes and doing the laundry.

Being aware at this level helps keep the mind from drifting into negative thoughts that tend to occur when doing something you might consider boring or mundane.

When you practice meditation at your busiest times, you will find that you are able to get through those busy times with more grace, peace, joy, love, and ease.

What a beautiful way to get through the chores of life.
