Meet Nancy Stevens, an ACC-certified life coach specializing in emotional well-being. In the book, The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools for Life, Nancy shares her transformative journey of reclaiming her personal power after years of giving others the authority to define her identity and dictate her professional potential. The Wellness Universe (WU): Hello Nancy, please tell us about yourself.

Nancy Stevens (NS): My journey began 20 years ago when I stepped onto a yoga mat for the first time. In the stillness of Savasana at the end of class, I had a profound realization: I mattered—not just as a mom of four active sons, a small business owner, or a support person in my husband’s business, but as me. That moment sparked a journey into uncharted territory, filled with messy, raw, and real experiences, as well as the sometimes painful work that accompanies healing and growth.

This path eventually moved me into my life’s purpose: to support and inspire others in their own journeys of self-awareness, healing, and authenticity, so they too can own their authority and live a more balanced, meaningful life.

Over the course of fifteen years, I became a student, immersing myself in learning the art and science of yoga, breathwork, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness practices, from spending time in nature to being intentionally still and silent. All of my previous studies opened the door to the work I do today as an ACC-certified life coach focusing on the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Yet, despite my growth, I repeatedly came up against an old, sneaky inner dialogue. This persistent voice worked behind the scenes, keeping me from fully sharing my uniqueness and purpose with the world.

During one of my coaching certifications, I was introduced to affirmations. My business coach encouraged me to write affirmations on sticky notes, read them aloud, and incorporate them into my daily routine. But the practice didn’t resonate. My inner critic dismissed affirmations as wishful thinking, leaving me uncomfortable and resistant to speaking to myself with kindness. Looking back, I realize I wasn’t ready; I still had inner work to do.

Through my deep inner work, I created a meaningful morning routine that prioritized self-care and self-love above all else. By making these elements the cornerstone of my day, before the busyness of doing life took over, everything began to shift.

Books I had previously purchased focusing on daily meditations and affirmations, along with new ones that seemed divinely placed, began weaving their way into my morning routine. They offered encouragement and support, meeting me exactly where I was in that moment.

This time, I was ready to embrace their power, making daily affirmations an essential part of my journey toward compassionately owning my authority.

In late 2023 I took a big leap fueled by my compassionate affirmation practice and authored my first solo book, Daily Affirmations A Self Help Journey: 365 Days of Affirmations and Journal Prompts for Women, that was published in 2024 and is available on Amazon.

The time is now for each of us to step into our power, embrace our authentic selves, and fully own our authority. As a life coach and emotional well-being specialist, I understand the urgency of this need.

WU: What inspired you to write your chapter in the book The Wellness Universe Guide to Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools For Life?

NS: The powerful healing provided to me by reading, meditating, and speaking affirmations aloud changed the course of who I am and how I navigate life today. At the heart of a personal affirmation practice is coming home to yourself with reverence rooted in love.

I know the profound impact my affirmations have in my life in divine timing with people, support, and resources. Being a co-author in book five of the Wellness Universe Guide To Complete Self-Care: 25 Tools For Life is the result of my practice!

Through my chapter, I share my personal journey to inspire and empower women to recognize their incredible worth and value. My goal is to help women embrace their light, fully support themselves, and, in doing so, uplift others as well.

WU: What tool do you share in this book, and what can we expect to experience as a result of using this tool?

NS: My tool is a detailed step-by-step process for creating and owning personal power affirmations. Learning how to create and use daily affirmations can lead to transformative personal growth and emotional well-being. This was my truth, and my personal daily affirmation practice is woven into each and every day. I use affirmations to set the tone for my day, prepare myself before work calls, handle my emotions so I stay present, and reflect at day’s end.

Here are just a few examples of the many ways daily affirmations can impact someone’s life.
