Welcome to Jim Phillips’ Wednesday Wisdom for January 2nd! Each Wednesday, WU World Changer Jim Phillips will share some mid-week wisdom for you to ponder and embrace!

“When the desire for change is strong enough, feelings and emotions emerge. They rise up within and serve as the inspirational force for change.” – Jim Phillips

As we begin the New Year, many, if not most, have thought about how they want the New Year to unfold and how they want it to be better than previous years.

Most thoughts revolve around creating better life circumstances through improved health, wealth or relationships. We have this wanting for a better life, but do we have the depth of desire that is required to see it through?

Desire is the stirring within that compels us to take action towards the object of our desire, such as improved health by making wiser food choices and exercising regularly. It is the energy that builds up, overpowers and replaces complacency; the acceptance of the status quo. Desire moves us beyond stagnation to active participation in the process that will result in our desire being met.

Desire is derived from our inspirations.

Our subsequent intention then provides the needed clarity and focus that ultimately brings about the change we desire to create and experience.

Simply stated, the depth of one’s desire for change is how badly they want it? All too often people talk about change they want to make in themselves and life; i.e., make New Year’s resolutions, and then fall way short of achieving them. The question is always why.

The answer is twofold.

First and foremost, the desire for the change is not strong enough. If we don’t have a strong enough desire to change, we won’t do anything to make it happen. We joyfully remain in our discomfort (status quo) and keep living life as it shows up.

Secondly, even if we have a desire for change, we must be willing to do what is required to create the change we desire. Willingness has no reluctance. When our depth of passion for what we desire to experience reaches the level necessary to take the appropriate steps, we will do so joyfully and without hesitation.

Some might say under certain circumstances the sacrifice involved is too great a price to pay, and yet, when our passion runs deep enough there is no sacrifice. It is in this moment that we place far greater value on what we “desire” to experience than the perceived sacrifice necessary to bring it about.

As you set your intentions for the New Year, or you evaluate those you have set, ask yourself:

  1. “Do I have the desire to do all that is required of me to bring about the change I say I want to experience?”
  2. “Am I willing to do what is required of me to bring about that change?”

If you answered yes to both questions, there is nothing that can prevent you from creating the change and therefore experiencing the better year and life you so deeply desire.

One of my intentions for 2019 is to make sure that what I write is relevant to those to whom the information is shared. With that in mind, what topics/questions would you like addressed in upcoming episodes of Wednesday Wisdom? Please share your suggestions in the comments section below.

Happy New Year!

See you back here this time next week for my Wednesday Wisdom for January 9th!
