Welcome to Life Mastery Soul Memos, Episode 1! Where each month, WU World-Changer and your Life Mastery Coach, David McLeod, will share a new soul memo with you!
Many people feel a deep calling to make a difference in the world. This is definitely true for members of The Wellness Universe, so much so that we proudly refer to ourselves as WU World Changers!
This inner calling seems to rise out of our true essence, which is nothing less than divine love. Most of us experience this as compassion, which is a wonderful capacity to recognize suffering in the world coupled with a deep desire to reduce that suffering. Unfortunately, sometimes we act impetuously on our desire to reduce suffering without really understanding the nature of that suffering or how it might actually serve someone in his or her growth. As a result, despite our loving intentions, we may inadvertently make matters worse.
Part of the challenge is that, in our desire to reduce or eliminate suffering, we often perform a quick analysis and we reduce the situation to a problem that has to be solved. As a result, we go into “fix-it” mode and we imagine a solution that is borne out of the same level of energy that created the problem in the first place.
To paraphrase both Albert Einstein and David Hawkins, we can only resolve or heal a situation by elevating ourselves to a higher level of consciousness. In other words, before we act, we would do well to raise our level of awareness in order to see and understand the situation from a higher perspective. It’s much like elevating yourself in an energetic sense above all the circumstances in your life and observing them from the vantage point of your Inner Observer, your Higher Self. By doing this, you increase your connection to deep wisdom. And from this place, you can engage your compassion in a way that serves rather than hinders. Using this approach, not only do you produce a net benefit to humanity, but through the power of the ripple effect, you also empower others to raise their consciousness.
If you truly wish to make a difference, remember the insightful words of Mahatma Gandhi, who said “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Let your desire to make a difference emanate from your deeper desire to be the fully expressed being you were meant to be!
