Rarely is there no sadness when a loved one dies.
Whether watching them, being around them, supporting them, or being unavoidably away, it is sad, and yet it is real.
We not only face the finality of their life and passing, we face our own immortality becoming aware that this life we are living will come to an end. Most spiritual teachings teach there is a continuation of some sort for our soul, and from that we take our comfort.  For some, there is only now.
Whichever way it is, NOW really is the only time there is.  Whether we are to move to a heavenly state, with nobody., or we are to be reborn, or in some other way the energy of our body and life is to continue, we will be a different person,  or entity which ever way, this life we are living comes to an end, so now is our time.

There are many lessons for we who are to continue living to learn when we are given the gift of such an experience.  As it is, even nature teaches us there is a season for all things, being involved with the passing of a living being has its season.

Our core values and ethics are brought to the forefront for us to face.
We learn much,  Seeing another face an inevitable end sometimes with courage, tears, love, struggle, peace or several emotions all at the one time.  And as  with life, there is always a myriad  of emotions to be dealt with.   And if we are to move forward in a healthy, adult way, deal with them we must.Forgiveness and compassion play a large role here.  We must be willing to forgive the past, whatever has happened between and with each person involved,  and even those things within ourselves that we think of after that we could have said or done, but did not.

We must forgive ourselves knowing that everything happens in the right time-space sequence for what it is.  It is necessary to show compassion for each of those involved with the situation when people can do better, they usually do.  A grief-stricken person, or even a calm collected person in this situation, or a person dying, are not always operating at their best,

If, what we are to take from the situation is love with good memories,  a resolve to be our most loving, kind caring forgiving and compassionate will make it easier to do so.  If we are to assist  the dying person to go in the most peaceful way possible, then  we must respect not only them,  their needs and requests,  we need do our best to make the environment one where peace and calm surround everyone, this must happen if we, that is all involved, are to move forward being able to show more of the light  within us than we did before.

The best way to do that is to practice from now, in this very moment.
