Not a single player on the professional scene got to where they are without a little help. Most, if not all, have had a coach or mentor guiding them to success.
The work of a coach aka life coach or a mentor is to help clients reach their full potential not by giving them a step-by-step template to follow but rather by engaging the client in conversations to help them overcome limiting barriers. It’s a team effort. Through both failures and progress, strategies are devised by determining the next action steps needed to successfully reach the client’s objectives. Each step is meant to guide you to reach your goals faster without wasting time and money along the way.
Check these five categories. If you fall in any of them, then hiring a life coach may not be for you:
- You want to be told what to do
- You believe your life is good enough as it is
- You don’t like change
- You don’t want to invest in yourself
- You don’t want to put the work in to improve your situation
But if you fall in these categories, a life coach may be exactly what you need:
- You feel stuck
- You’re unhappy with your situation
- You doubt yourself
- You want to change profession
- You have a vision but no clue about how to get there
- You don’t always follow through
- You’re a born procrastinator
- You’re stressed out
- You need to make more money
- Your confidence needs a boost
- You’re searching for your life purpose
Now that you’ve determined if a life coach is right for you, let’s see how one can help you.
Many people think they can do it all on their own, but the truth is we all need a bit of help and guidance once in a while. This thinking of wanting to do it themselves is based on a false belief that spending money for coaching services is wasted cash. If this is you, ask yourself these questions and weigh the answers, how much money did you spend trying to “go it alone?” How much time did you waste with trial and error? Would suggestions and guidance from a coach not have saved you that time and money? The truth is, you can’t afford not to have a coach. Granted, there are people who really don’t have enough to warrant hiring a coach, but if you’re reading this post, you’re probably not one of them.
Life coaches wear many hats, they’ll unlock your potential, allow you to discover your best self, act as a motivator, be an accountability partner, push you towards your greatness, help you identify your blind spots, and be your strategist. They help you see your true self unmarred by any limiting beliefs you may have. Their goal is to help you create a vision and an action plan to help you live life how you want to live it. Keep in mind, they are not magic bullets or magic pills. And there’ll be work for you to do but it will all be worth it; remember the old saying, “Nothing worthwhile comes easy?”
Coaches also come in many flavors, some help you with your personal life and relationships, others guide you on your professional journey, while still others assist you with your health goals.
Along with the different streams of life coaching exists various coaching accreditations. Some coaches are well accredited while others pull on their own life experiences and struggles to help others on their journeys. Every coach has a distinct style and not all charge exorbitant fees. All you need to to do is a bit of research, listen to your heart, and find the perfect life coach for you.
Isn’t it time to have someone stand by your side and help you gain full control of your personal and professional life?

“Each person holds so much power within themselves that needs to be let out. Sometimes they just need a little nudge, a little direction, a little support, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen.”— Pete Carrol
