Welcome to Jim Phillips’ Wednesday Wisdom for April 17th! Each Wednesday, WU World Changer Jim Phillips will share some mid-week wisdom for you to ponder and embrace!

“Joy cannot be created. It is to be allowed and embraced.”

When you were born it was quite possible you were referred to as a “bundle of joy.”

If you are like me, it was also more than likely the last time this reference was made. I must admit, experiencing joy and therefore being a bundle of joy has not been one of my strong suits throughout my life. I remember always being way too serious about life and not allowing myself the experience of joy that everyday life has to offer. I was too concerned about living up to expectations, most of which were not mine, while on the lookout for the next experience that would allow me to do so.

A case in point, after only 18 months of operation my real estate company won the broker of the year award for a major real estate franchise. It was quite an achievement to go from startup company to broker of the year in that short amount of time and yet while on stage receiving the award I turned to my partner and said, “you know we have to repeat this, don’t you?”

Joy has been a constant urging from my Soul throughout my life, however, I have only given it conscious awareness over the last 20 or so years.

The request, allow more joy into your life, bring more joy into everything you do, be more joyful.

Don’t get me wrong, I have had the experience of joy but have not sustained it. It was an elusive experience I found myself trying to recreate which I now realize was the problem. Joy is not to be created. Joy is to be realized and experienced. Joy is to be understood as a way of being and existing in this world. It is not tied to any circumstances, although circumstances can certainly elicit the outward expression of joy.

Joy is that experience of lightness, being carefree, unburdened by what life has or might present. It is unadulterated in the moment living, appreciating, embracing and knowing that life is always offering what is required to live in full expression of the truth. Joy is that truth. Joy is the knowing that we are loved and appreciated beyond measure, regardless of what we have done or are doing. It is the experience of that knowing in the face of adversity and that whatever life presents is always for us.

Joy in its truest form is the experience and expression of love. And as an expression of love, which we are, joy is our most authentic experience and expression of our Self.

How do we invite and allow joy to be our experience? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Don’t take life or yourself so seriously.

This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be serious about life. Be intentional about life and how you desire it to unfold, then let it unfold as it does, knowing it is unfolding in perfection. There is joy in that knowing of perfection.

  1. Do more of what makes you happy and less of what does not.

Engage in activities that are personally fulfilling. Hang out with people with whom you enjoy hanging out and not people who cause angst, frustration or stress.

  1. Understand the purpose for life and that everything life offers fulfills that purpose.

There is joy in that knowing.

  1. Honor and respect all others knowing they are going through this experience of life as you are with their own “hang-ups” and misunderstandings.

See them for who they truly are and not as you perceive them to be.

Joy is the way we came into this world. It is the way we are intended to navigate and live in this world.

And, it is the state in which we are to exit this world. Let this be the most recent but not last time you are referred to as a bundle of joy. In truth, that is what you are.

See you back here this time next week for my Wednesday Wisdom for April 24th!
